Onset, progression and cardiovascular outcome of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are influenced by the concomitant sterile inflammation. The pro-inflammatory cytokine family interleukin (IL)-1 is crucial in CKD with the key alarmin IL-1α playing an additional role as an adhesion molecule that facilitates immune cell tissue infiltration and consequently inflammation. Here, we investigate calcium ion and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent regulation of different aspects of IL-1α-mediated inflammation.

[Oncogeriatric pathway in oncology support care day hospital and link with the palliative pathway].

The discovery of a cancer for which there is no immediate curative option is a frequent occurrence in the elderly. This article describes two well-identified pathways coordinated by advanced practice nurses at our facility: the oncogeriatric pathway and the early palliative pathway, as well as the link between these pathways.

Objective: To describe the level of inconsistency between pictures on baby diaper packaging and safe infant sleep recommendations (SISRs) in Europe.

Study Design: We attempted to identify all packaging of baby diapers sold in 11 European countries for infants weighing less than 5 kg through internet searches from July 2022 through February 2023. For each type of package, we extracted whether there was a picture depicting a baby, whether the baby was sleeping, and whether the picture of the sleeping baby was inconsistent with ≥1 of 3 SISRs: (i) nonsupine sleeping position, (ii) soft objects or loose bedding, or (iii) sharing a sleep surface with another person.

A 75-year-old female patient was admitted following head trauma responsible for an acute-onset neurological worsening with a Glasgow Coma Scalescore of 6. Computed tomography scan revealed a large bifrontal meningioma with extralesional bleeding causing cranio-caudal transtentorial brain herniation. Despite emergency surgical excision of the tumor using craniotomy, the patient remained comatose.

Far-Lateral Approach for Foramen Magnum Meningioma: An Anatomical Study with Special Reference to Bulbopontine Junction.

Intracranial meningiomas are sometimes located anteriorly to the foramen magnum and can cause disabling long tract symptoms. The far-lateral approach has been developed to provide an extensive view over the bulbopontine junction and the surrounding lower cranial nerves and upper spinal nerves with a good control on the vertebral artery, allowing the safe resection of such tumors. It is the report of a case with anatomical study before and after the removal of the meningioma.

Emergency Cranial Surgeries Without the Support of a Neurosurgeon: Experience of the French Military Surgeons.

Cattle that were at steady-state serum polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) concentrations due to several years of exposure to water contaminated by residues of Aqueous Film-Forming (AFFF) firefighting foam had perfluorooctane sulphonate (PFOS) isomers, perfluoroheptane sulphonate (PFHpS), perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) in serum.
