Twenty-one-year follow-up revealed guideline-concordant and non-concordant trends in intensive care of bronchiolitis.

Unlabelled: To evaluate the management of bronchiolitis in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) before and after publication of the national bronchiolitis guidelines in June 2015. All infants treated between 2016-2020 for bronchiolitis in the PICU of Tampere University Hospital at < 12 months of age were included. The data were retrospectively collected from electronic patient records.

Olfactory discrimination of aliphatic odorants in South African fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus).

Using a food-rewarded, two-choice, instrumental conditioning paradigm we assessed the ability of South African fur seals, Arctocephalus pusillus, to discriminate between members of five chemical classes of aliphatic odorants presumed to differ in their abundance in the marine chemical environment. We found that the fur seals were able to distinguish between 24 of the 25 odor pairs presented and thus have a well-developed ability to discriminate between structurally related odorants, that aliphatic n-acetic esters were significantly more poorly discriminated by the fur seals than aliphatic n-aldehydes and n-carboxylic acids, and a lack of correlations between discrimination performance and structural similarity of odorants in terms of differences in carbon chain length. These results suggest that the sense of smell may play an important and hitherto underestimated role in regulating the behavior of fur seals.

Recombinant activated factor VII for bleeding in patients without inherited bleeding disorders.

(1) Recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) is licensed in Canada for the prevention and treatment of bleeding in hemophiliacs, but it is increasingly used to control bleeding in non-hemophilic patients during surgery, or during treatment for severe trauma or intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). (2) In one clinical trial, there was a significant reduction in mortality among patients with ICH treated with rFVIIa. In another trial, administration of rFVIIa significantly reduced the number of trauma patients needing massive blood transfusions although there was no significant difference in mortality.

[Immediate results of surgical treatment of stomach cancer].

Results of surgical treatment of 346 patients with cancer of the stomach are presented. All the patients underwent extended D2 and D3 lymphadenectomy. Up-to-date aspects of surgical treatment of stomach cancer, including intraoperative staging of cancer, spectrum of surgeries, their technical features, postoperative complications, lethality are outlined.

Making it work: keys to successful collaboration in natural resource management.

This paper explores the positive aspects of collaboration in natural resources. Its purpose was to investigate participants' overall attitudes about keys to successful collaboration. The sample for the study consisted of 671 participants involved in 30 collaborative initiatives (CI) with the Forest Service.

Managing Public Forests: Understanding the Role of Collaborative Planning.

/ As federal land management agencies such as the USDA Forest Service increasingly choose to implement collaborative methods of public participation, research is needed to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the technique, to identify barriers to effective implementation of collaborative processes, and to provide recommendations for increasing its effectiveness. This paper reports on the findings of two studies focused on the experiences of Forest Service employees and their external partners as they work to implement collaborative planning processes in national forest management. The studies show both similarities and differences between agency employees and their partners in terms of how they evaluate their collaborative experiences.

The effect of paracetamol or diclofenac administered before operation on postoperative pain and behaviour after adenoidectomy in small children.

We compared the effects of rectally administered diclofenac (12.5 mg) with paracetamol (125 mg) on pre- and postoperative behaviour and the need for supplementary analgesia in 44 children scheduled for adenoidectomy (with or without myringotomy). The study drugs were given in combination with diazepam (0.
