Collagen Matrix to Restore the Tympanic Membrane: Developing a Novel Platform to Treat Perforations.

Modern otology faces challenges in treating tympanic membrane (TM) perforations. Instead of surgical intervention, alternative treatments using biomaterials are emerging. Recently, we developed a robust collagen membrane using semipermeable barrier-assisted electrophoretic deposition (SBA-EPD).

Vocal fold restoration after scarring: biocompatibility and efficacy of an MSC-based bioequivalent.

Background: There is growing interest to application of regenerative medicine approaches in otorhinolaryngological practice, especially in the framework of the therapy of vocal fold (VF) scar lesions. The used conservative and surgical methods, despite the achieved positive outcomes, are frequently unpredictable and do not result in the restoration of the VF's lamina propria's structure, which provides the mechanical properties necessary for vibration. In this connection, the aim of this study was to ascertain the safety and efficacy of a bioequivalent in the treatment of VF scars using a rabbit model of chronic damage.

The article presents data on sports, active forms of leisure, travel among elderly Russians. An important conclusion is made that health promotion by means of active recreation and sports among senior citizens in Russia is one of the directions of active longevity policy. An overview of charitable foundations for senior citizens of the Russian Federation and their activities in promoting an active lifestyle among elderly citizens is presented.

A New Method for Plastic Closure of an Extensive Laryngotracheal Defect.

Introduction: Elimination of extensive defects of the larynx and trachea by using musculoskeletal plastics without the use of supporting materials is not always sufficient. Laser modeling of cartilage tissue is a promising technique in modern medicine.

Case Report: This article presents a new method for plastic closure of an extensive defect in the larynx and trachea with the help of costal auto-cartilage modeled by an erbium fiber laser with wavelength of 1.

Cerebrospinal fluid diversion versus bariatric surgery in the management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a condition affecting predominantly young women with increased body mass index (BMI). Obesity with the related metabolic and biochemical complications are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of the condition. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety, outcomes and economic implications of two treatment options for IIH.

[The current views of the problem of the plastic correction of the laryngo-tracheal defects in the patients presenting with combined laryngeal stenoses].

The present review of the literature is designed to analyze the currently available methods for the plastic correction of the laryngo-tracheal defects in the patients presenting with combined laryngeal stenoses at the concluding stage of their medical rehabilitation. We looked through 56 literature sources including 28 publications of the foreign authors. The different approaches to the plastic correction of the laryngo-tracheal defects have been critically considered with special reference to their advantages and disadvantages.

[Association of polymorphisms and haplotypes in the 5' region of COLIA1 gene with the risk of osteoporotic fractures in Russian women from Volga-Ural region].

The analysis of -1997G/T, -1663indelT, and +1245G/T polymorphic loci of the 5'region of COLIA1 gene in 124 females aged from 50 to 70 years old with low numbers of traumatic fractures as well as 150 healthy individuals from Volga-Ural region has been conducted. The association of -1663indelT and +1245G/T loci with the risk of osteoporotic fractures has been discovered. It has been shown that -1997*G*G/-1663*I*D/+1245*G*T genotype combination and -1997*G/-1663*D/+1245*T haplotype can be considered as markers for fracture development.

[Indicators of heart failure functional classes at the stage of sanatorium rehabilitation of patients with myocardial infarction].

Heart failure (HF) is one of the most frequent consequences of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The purpose of the study was to establish the most informative indicators of HF functional classes at the stage of sanatorium rehabilitation of Ml patients. The subjects were 509 Ml patients aged 56.

[Current approach to rehabilitation of elderly cardiovascular patients].

Rehabilitation of patients of the senior generation with cardiovascular diseases is based on an individual method of approach with allocation of groups of patients of the increased risk of complications of coronary hart diseases and myocardial infarction. Carrying out of secondary preventive maintenance is directed on liquidation or reduction of risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. The basic disease goes with combine accompanying illnesses, such as a cerebral atherosclerosis, atherosclerosis arteries of the inferior limb, an arterial hypertension, adiposity, a diabetes mellitus, diseases of lungs at that category of patients.

[The use of kombutek 2 in treating patients with radiation damages to the skin].

A high activity of combutec 2, prepared on the basis of soluble collagen, was demonstrated in patients with radiation injuries of the skin after the accident at Chernobyl. Combutec 2 can be recommended for local therapy of patients with skin radiation injuries in all periods of development of these changes.

[The magnetotherapy of hypertension patients].

A study was made of the influence of the constant MKM2-1 magnets on patients suffering from essential hypertension. Continuous action of the magnetic field, created by such magnets, on the patients with stage II essential hypertension was noted to result in a decrease of arterial pressure without the occurrence of any side effects and in a simultaneous reduction of the scope of drug administration. Apart from that fact, magnetotherapy was discovered to produce a beneficial effect on the central hemodynamics and microcirculation.
