Patient-reported outcomes questionnaires are accepted measurement tools to evaluate procedures results. The Rhinoplasty Health Inventory and Nasal Outcomes (RHINO) scale is an English-language validated and reliable quality-of-life instrument that evaluates both functional and aesthetic outcomes after rhinoplasty, and is not available in Hebrew. We followed the forward-and-back-translation method, defined by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer.

Two-component nematic superconductivity in 4Hb-TaS.

Most superconductors have an isotropic, single component order parameter and are well described by the standard (BCS) theory for superconductivity. Unconventional, multiple-component superconductors are exceptionally rare and are much less understood. Here, we combine scanning tunneling microscopy and angle-resolved macroscopic transport for studying the candidate chiral superconductor, 4Hb-TaS.

Observing the universal screening of a Kondo impurity.

The Kondo effect, deriving from a local magnetic impurity mediating electron-electron interactions, constitutes a flourishing basis for understanding a large variety of intricate many-body problems. Its experimental implementation in tunable circuits has made possible important advances through well-controlled investigations. However, these have mostly concerned transport properties, whereas thermodynamic observations - notably the fundamental measurement of the spin of the Kondo impurity - remain elusive in test-bed circuits.

Humanitarian Outpatient Pediatric Endeavor (HOPE): A Novel Specialist Ambulatory Health-Care Concept in Conflict Areas.

With the collapse of the medical system in Syria, Israel began providing Syrians with humanitarian aid, first to the war-injured and then general medical treatment. We developed a novel specialist ambulatory care concept to provide medical care for Syrian children. Children with their caregivers were transported by bus across the border from Syria to our medical center in Israel for day-stay outpatient-clinic advanced evaluation and treatment due to coordination between Syrian, Red Cross, and Israeli authorities, including Israeli Defense Forces.

Measuring Topological Entanglement Entropy Using Maxwell Relations.

Topological entanglement entropy (TEE) is a key diagnostic of topological order, allowing one to detect the presence of Abelian or non-Abelian anyons. However, there are currently no experimentally feasible protocols to measure TEE in condensed matter systems. Here, we propose a scheme to measure the TEE of chiral topological phases, carrying protected edge states, based on a nontrivial connection with the thermodynamic entropy change occurring in a quantum point contact (QPC) as it pinches off the topological liquid into two.

Maternal and Cord Anti-SARS-CoV-2-Spike IgG following COVID-19 Vaccination versus Infection during Pregnancy: A Prospective Study, Israel October 2021-March 2022.

Objective: Defining how pregnant women respond to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and vaccination is critical to optimize vaccination strategies that protect mother and infant at the epidemic. This study aimed to compare anti-SARS-CoV-2-spike immunoglobulin G (IgG) of vaccinated versus infected women and to determine the optimal timing of maternal vaccination during pregnancy at the time of epidemic.

Automatic Segmentation of Periapical Radiograph Using Color Histogram and Machine Learning for Osteoporosis Detection.

Osteoporosis leads to the loss of cortical thickness, a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD), deterioration in the size of trabeculae, and an increased risk of fractures. Changes in trabecular bone due to osteoporosis can be observed on periapical radiographs, which are widely used in dental practice. This study proposes an automatic trabecular bone segmentation method for detecting osteoporosis using a color histogram and machine learning (ML), based on 120 regions of interest (ROI) on periapical radiographs, and divided into 60 training and 42 testing datasets.

Cross-cultural adaptation of the Hebrew Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) scale.

Objective: Nasal obstruction is a common complaint. The Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation scale (NOSE) is a reliable validated tool used to assess the quality of life of patients with nasal obstruction. The purpose of this study is to validate the Hebrew version of the NOSE scale (He-NOSE).

Manipulating Non-Abelian Anyons in a Chiral Multichannel Kondo Model.

Non-Abelian anyons are fractional excitations of gapped topological models believed to describe certain topological superconductors or quantum Hall states. Here, we provide the first numerical evidence that they emerge as independent entities also in gapless electronic models. Starting from a multi-impurity multichannel chiral Kondo model, we introduce a novel mapping to a single-impurity model, amenable to Wilson's numerical renormalization group.

Entropy Measurement of a Strongly Coupled Quantum Dot.

The spin 1/2 entropy of electrons trapped in a quantum dot has previously been measured with great accuracy, but the protocol used for that measurement is valid only within a restrictive set of conditions. Here, we demonstrate a novel entropy measurement protocol that is universal for arbitrary mesoscopic circuits and apply this new approach to measure the entropy of a quantum dot hybridized with a reservoir. The experimental results match closely to numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations for small and intermediate coupling.

Reasons underlying the intention to vaccinate children aged 5-11 against COVID-19: A cross-sectional study of parents in Israel, November 2021.

Vaccination is a key tool to mitigate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Israel, COVID-19 vaccines became available to adults in December 2020 and to 5-11-year-old children in November 2021. Ahead of the vaccine roll-out in children, we aimed to determine whether surveyed parents intended to vaccinate their children and describe reasons for their intentions.

Fractional Entropy of Multichannel Kondo Systems from Conductance-Charge Relations.

Fractional entropy is a signature of nonlocal degrees of freedom, such as Majorana zero modes or more exotic non-Abelian anyons. Although direct experimental measurements remain challenging, Maxwell relations provide an indirect route to the entropy through charge measurements. Here we consider multichannel charge-Kondo systems, which are predicted to host exotic quasiparticles due to a frustration of Kondo screening at low temperatures.

Hybrid Prepectoral Direct-to-Implant and Autologous Fat Graft Simultaneously in Immediate Breast Reconstruction: A Single Surgeon's Experience with 25 Breasts in 15 Consecutive Cases.

Background: The direct-to-implant method depends on the quality of the mastectomy flaps and can be used only when the flaps are adequately perfused. Even though the method was designed to be a definitive reconstruction procedure, it has been associated with an increased likelihood that additional operative revision will be required in order to achieve the expected final cosmetic outcome. The authors describe a hybrid prepectoral direct-to-implant method that combines autologous fat grafting in the superior medial pole with immediate reconstruction.

Pre-infection 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels and association with severity of COVID-19 illness.

Objective: Studies have demonstrated a potential correlation between low vitamin D status and both an increased risk of infection with SARS-CoV-2 and poorer clinical outcomes. This retrospective study examines if, and to what degree, a relationship exists between pre-infection serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) level and disease severity and mortality due to SARS-CoV-2.

Participants: The records of individuals admitted between April 7th, 2020 and February 4th, 2021 to the Galilee Medical Center (GMC) in Nahariya, Israel, with positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) were searched for historical 25(OH)D levels measured 14 to 730 days prior to the positive PCR test.

Local Delivery of Mometasone Furoate from an Eluting Endotracheal Tube Reduces Airway Morbidity Following Long-Term Animal Intubation.

Background: upper airway complications are common sequelae of endotracheal tube (ETT) intubation, and systemic corticosteroids are considered a mainstay treatment for this problem. Drug-eluting ETT may present an attractive option for topical steroid delivery while avoiding systemic side effects and improving the therapeutic outcome. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the reduction of tube-related tracheal morbidity a self-designed steroid-eluting ETT with controlled sustained release properties in an animal model.

Utility of the Pediatric Bleeding Questionnaire in Predicting Posttonsillectomy Bleeding.

Objective: Posttonsillectomy bleeding is a dreadful complication that may be life-threatening. Preoperative coagulation tests have not been shown to be effective in predicting this complication. The Pediatric Bleeding Questionnaire (PBQ) is a validated and sensitive tool in diagnosing children with abnormal hemostatic functions, and the objective of our study was to assess its utility as a preoperative screening tool for predicting posttonsillectomy bleeding.

Inferior turbinate reduction: comparing post-operative bleeding between different surgical techniques.

Objective: Post-operative bleeding is one of the most common and severe complications of turbinate surgery. This study compared post-operative bleeding following partial turbinectomy, submucosal turbinate reduction and endoscopic turbinoplasty.

Methods: Post-operative bleeding was assessed in patients who underwent inferior turbinate intervention by partial turbinectomy, submucosal turbinate reduction or endoscopic turbinoplasty between January 2016 and November 2017 and had completed at least one month of follow up.

Interfacial ferroelectricity by van der Waals sliding.

Despite their partial ionic nature, many layered diatomic crystals avoid internal electric polarization by forming a centrosymmetric lattice at their optimal van-der-Waals stacking. Here, we report a stable ferroelectric order emerging at the interface between two naturally-grown flakes of hexagonal-boron-nitride, which are stacked together in a metastable non-centrosymmetric parallel orientation. We observe alternating domains of inverted normal polarization, caused by a lateral shift of one lattice site between the domains.
