Popcorn is a specialty corn with worldwide popularity as a snack. Despite having great market demand, genetic improvement in popping quality is limited, which is caused by the limited germplasm utilization and narrow genetic base. An assortment of diverse germplasm, their effective characterization, and integration into popcorn breeding pipeline is the foundation for an efficient breeding program.

A postulate that relates global warming to higher entropy generation rate demand in the tropospheric is offered and tested. This article introduces a low-complexity model to calculate the entropy generation rate required in the troposphere. The entropy generation rate per unit volume is noted to be proportional to the square of the Earth's average surface temperature for a given positive rate of surface warming.

The purpose of the present work was to understand the role of various morphological and biochemical factors as defense mechanism and their interaction on different biological parameters attributed to survival and development of pink stem borer (PSB), Walker in maize. The resistant and moderately resistant genotypes (DMRE 63, CM 500 and WNZ Exotic pool) suffered least leaf injury rating (LIR), dead hearts (DH%), percentage stem tunneling (ST%), number of entry/exit holes (E/EH) and showed deleterious effects on biological parameters of pink stem borer as compared to susceptible ones (CM 202 and BML 6).

Common complications in children with DKA include cerebral edema, acute kidney injury, hypokalemia, hypoglycemia, etc. As opposed to asymptomatic hypophosphatemia, which is common during the management of DKA, severe symptomatic hypophosphatemia leading to life-threatening complications like rhabdomyolysis, hemolysis, respiratory failure secondary to muscle weakness, and cardiac complications are rare.

Smith) in the country, Government of India offered ad approval for few pesticide molecules namely, emamectin benzoate, spinetoram, chlorantraniliprole, novaluron, thiodicarb, and λ-cyhalothrin for FAW management in corn crop across the country.

Among the biotic constraints that limit the productivity of maize, the recent invasion of fall armyworm (FAW) in India is a concern. The first line of strategy available for FAW management is to evaluate and exploit resistant genotypes for inclusion in an IPM schedule.

Self-organization that leads to the discontinuous emergence of optimized new patterns is related to entropy generation and the export of entropy. Compared to the original pattern that the new, self-organized pattern replaces, the new features could involve an abrupt change in the pattern-volume. There is no clear principle of pathway selection for self-organization that is known for triggering a particular new self-organization pattern.

The present study demonstrated that PSB feeding, mechanical wounding, a combination of mechanical wounding and PSB regurgitation and exogenous application of methyl jasmonate have induced phenolic compound mediated defense responses both at short term (within 2 days of treatment) and long term (in 15 days of treatment) in leaf and stalk tissues of maize.

A review based on a pre-publication arXiv preprint is first presented. A detailed comparison with experimental observations indicates that the Maximum Entropy Production Rate-density model (MEPR) can correctly predict bifurcations for dilute alloys during solidification.

Methods: This prospective observational study conducted in a newborn unit of a tertiary care teaching hospital over 1 year included intramural neonates with birth weight ≥1000 g and gestation ≥28 weeks suspected with sepsis and assigned SNAP-II score within 12 h of suspicion. On day 14 of enrollment, they were categorized into three outcome groups: death (D), survival with organ dysfunction (SOD) and survival without organ dysfunction (SWOD).
To determine the effect of alternative positions (relative to placenta) of normal term neonates, prior to the recommended delayed cord clamping, on placental transfusion and short-term neonatal outcome. Normal term neonates born vaginally were randomly assigned to be placed either on mother's abdomen (Group AL, = 97) or 20 cm below the introitus (Group BL, = 102) for 90 seconds after delivery. Subsequently the cord was clamped.

In this paper, effectiveness of botanicals including plant extracts, essential oils, their isolated pure compounds, plant based nano formulations and their mode of action against storage insects have been reviewed with special reference to maize. Plant based insecticides found to be the most promising means of controlling storage insects of maize in an eco friendly and sustainable manner.

We developed a stable isotope dilution capillary gas chromatography/mass spectrometry assay for lipoic acid. We assayed a panel of the metabolites of transmethylation and transsulfuration 30 min after injecting 100 mg/kg lipoic acid in a rat model.

The mean red blood cell volume (MCV) is usually increased in severe megaloblastic anemia due to pernicious anemia. However, during one year in a university hospital, three patients with life-threatening pancytopenia and normal MCV were proven to have severe vitamin B12 deficiency. The red blood cell distribution width was markedly increased (three times normal) and led to review of the blood smear and recognition of megaloblastosis as well as prominent red cell fragmentation.
