Article Synopsis
  • * This case discusses a 66-year-old woman who developed a large malignant pericardial effusion 7 years post-surgery for endometrial carcinoma after stopping chemotherapy.
  • * Cytological tests confirmed adenocarcinoma with psammoma bodies, and analysis showed similar characteristics to the original tumor, aiding in the diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Intracytoplasmic lumina (ICL) are common in bladder cancer, particularly in high-grade cases, but their effect on patient prognosis needed further investigation.
  • The study examined 87 bladder cancer patients to assess the correlation between cytological diagnosis of ICL (cICL) and various clinical outcomes, finding that cICL positivity is linked to more aggressive disease features.
  • Results indicated that cICL positivity correlates with shorter survival rates, especially in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, emphasizing its potential as a prognostic marker.

Article Synopsis
  • Methotrexate is a commonly used treatment for rheumatoid arthritis but can lead to a rare condition called methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder, often linked to Epstein-Barr virus and specific lymphoma types.
  • A case study of a 70-year-old man revealed atypical lymphoid cells in his sputum, leading to a diagnosis of the disorder after a lung biopsy confirmed the presence of atypical cells.
  • The patient's condition improved dramatically after discontinuing methotrexate, highlighting the potential for spontaneous regression following treatment withdrawal.

Article Synopsis
  • Tumor-associated tissue eosinophilia refers to an inflammatory response where eosinophils infiltrate tumor tissues, but detailed studies on this in various organs are lacking.
  • A case of a 49-year-old woman with non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma showed an increase in eosinophils in cervical samples and a 5.5 cm tumor in the cervix, leading to a radical hysterectomy that revealed adenosquamous carcinoma.
  • Post-surgery, while eosinophil levels decreased initially, they rose again at recurrence, suggesting eosinophil counts may serve as a marker for disease activity in cancer patients.

Oxidative stress plays pivotal roles in the progression of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) through cell signaling related closely to cancer growth. We previously reported that peroxiredoxin 4 (PRDX4), a secretory-type antioxidant enzyme, can protect against the development of various diseases, including potential malignancies. Since many patients with early-stage LUAD develop recurrence, even after curative complete resection, we investigated the association of the PRDX4 expression with the clinicopathological features and recurrence/prognosis using post-surgical samples of stage I-LUAD.
