Background: Portal vein (PV) embolization is performed prior to extended hepatectomy for the damaged liver to increase future remnant liver volume and prevent postoperative liver failure. This study examined whether two-stage PV ligation (PVL) increased regeneration and hypertrophy of the future remnant liver compared to conventional PVL, and whether two-stage PVL was safe for damaged liver.
Method: We produced a cirrhotic liver rat model with perioperatively maintained fibrosis.
Background: We report a case of a giant retroperitoneal calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) treated by radical tumor resection combined with right hepatectomy and reconstruction of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and bilateral renal veins. Only three case reports of CFT arising in the retroperitoneum have been reported until today.
Case Presentation: In a 19-year-old female patient, computed tomography (CT) images showed a well-demarcated expansile lesion around the IVC accompanied by focal calcification, whereas the IVC that was circumferentially surrounded by the lesion was dilated due to the desmoplastic reaction.
Objective: To determine whether intraoperative autotransfusion reduces the percentage of patients undergoing allogeneic blood transfusion.
Data Sources And Study Selection: Using a public domain database (MEDLINE) and a Web-based search engine (PubMed), all intraoperative autotransfusion vs control prospective randomized controlled trials that enrolled patients undergoing elective infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, published between January 1, 1966, and November 30, 2005, were searched. Relevant studies were identified through a manual search of secondary sources including references of initially identified articles.
Situs inversus totalis refers to a mirror-image reversal of the normal position of the internal organs. The recognition of concomitant anomalies, such as in the cardiac, venous, gastrointestinal, and urinary systems, is extremely important because these anomalies may disturb the surgical procedure for the concurrent disease in situs inversus totalis. The authors describe a case of successfully repaired abdominal aortic aneurysm with a false aneurysm of the right external iliac artery in situs inversus totalis.

To assess the true risk, we revisited a famous meta-analysis including 37 studies on lung cancer and passive smoking, and adjusted for publication bias by means of the "trim and fill" algorithm. The adjusted relative risk of lung cancer in non-smokers who lived with a smoker from the 44 studies including the 7 filled ones was 1.

We report a nontraumatic pseudoaneurysm of the proximal ulnar artery with eosinophilia in a 54-year-old man. Radial, coronary, and hepatic artery aneurysms associated with eosinophilia in idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome or allergic granulomatous angiitis (Churg Strauss syndrome) have been reported.

We describe a case of intercostal artery pseudoaneurysm due to a stab wound, review the literature, and discuss therapeutic modalities. Intercostal artery pseudoaneurysm is at risk for early rupture, and diagnosis before rupture is mandatory.

A 61-year-old woman had a pulsatile and painful tumor on the right dorsal part of the foot, and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an aneurysm of the dorsalis pedis artery. Resection of the aneurysm was completed without complications.
