Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prevalence and outcomes of pregnancies with abnormal placentas, based on a systematic review of 48 studies conducted from 1974 to 2022.
  • It found that babies with a circumvallate placenta faced higher risks of cesarean delivery, preterm birth, and placental abruption, while those with a succenturiate lobe also had increased cesarean rates.
  • Overall, the evidence indicates that abnormal placentas are high-risk factors for negative pregnancy outcomes, although more research is needed for definitive conclusions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the oncological outcomes of Japanese women with uterine-confined, node-negative cervical cancer who had either open surgery or minimally invasive surgery (MIS) between 2011 and 2018.
  • A total of 2,279 patients were analyzed, with 225 in the MIS group and 2,054 in the open surgery group, and overall survival rates after four years were similar between both groups (99.5% for MIS vs. 97.2% for open surgery).
  • The findings indicate that minimally invasive surgery did not negatively affect survival outcomes compared to traditional open surgery for this type of cancer.

Lacking experience of laparoscopic surgery against gynecologic malignancies, we started performing robot-assisted surgery for uterine cancer in September 2017. Here we compared the safety and efficacy of robot-assisted surgery with those of open surgery in early-stage uterine cancer patients. The surgical time was significantly longer and the blood loss and hospital stay were significantly shorter for robot-assisted versus open surgery.
