Focal cemento osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a subgroup of benign fibro osseous lesions, which occur in a single site of tooth-bearing areas of jaws. It is usually asymptomatic and noticed accidentally through routine radiological exams. There is often no need for treatment of such lesions.

Aim: At the moment there is no clear evidence with clinico-histological and immunohistochemical studies in animals to show the curcumin effect on the gingival overgrowth following phenytoin consumption. The purpose of the present study was to identify this subject.

Materials And Methods: In this experimental study, 50 adult male Wistar rats were divided into three groups.

Background: Limited statistically and clinically significant studies have been down on connective tissue factors in the odontogenic tumors. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the biological behavior of two selected epithelial odontogenic tumors (Ameloblastoma and Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor) by detecting CD34, VEGFR3 and eosinophil densities.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, paraffin blocks including 20 cases of ameloblastoma and 20 (AOT), were selected.

Background: Metastatic carcinomas to the upper jaw region are very rare and unfortunately occur in advanced stages of malignancies. Pancoast tumor is a challenging subset of lung carcinoma commonly followed by distant metastasis. Since the metastatic lesion of our patient was very huge and unusual, we decided to report the case.

Background And Objectives: TWIST is a transcription factor that plays a key role in the development of primary tumor to metastatic stage of cancer. It is an inhibitor of E-cadherin in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transformation process (epithelial-mesenchymal transition). Few studies are available on the use of TWIST as a goal in molecular-targeted therapy.

Ossifying fibroma is a benign osteogenic mesenchymal tumor that is classified in the fibro-osseous lesions. Fibro-osseous lesions contain minerals, blood vessels, and giant cells that have the same radiographic and pathologic features but have different clinical behaviors, and were replaced with the normal bone. These lesions include fibrous dysplasia, cemento-osseous dysplasia, and ossifying fibroma.

Introduction: Natural killer (NK) cells, of which CD is a specific marker, play an important role in host defense against tumors. Cancer stem cells, of which aldehyde dehydrogenase isoform 1 (ALDH) is an immunohistochemical marker, are a group of tumorigenic cells which are involved in migration and tumor recurrences. We aimed to evaluate the expression of ALDH and CD in common salivary gland tumors, as well as their relationship with each other and with a number of clinicopathologic factors.

Introduction: The ectopic ciliated cyst is a rare non-odontogenic cyst which occurs as a delayed complication after maxillary sinus radical surgery; this lesion emerges due to the destruction of the sinus mucosa during the surgery and entrapment of the respiratory epithelium in the region. This lesion has been observed in very rare cases following genioplasty and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery.

Case Report: We reported a case of the ectopic ciliated cyst in in the mandible of a 37-year-old Iranian woman following genioplasty and Lefort 1 surgery after 2 years.

Background: Today, electronic mass media such as television (TV), influence behavioral patterns of their audiences. This study aimed to evaluate what messages on food advertisements related to oral health were transmitted (appeals) and how they were transferred (performance methods & artistic techniques) in Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

Methods: In this cross sectional study, broadcasted advertisements on 4 important channels of Iran TV were recorded for a week from 8 am to 12 pm in 2012.

Objective: Oral mucosal epithelia of smokers and waterpipe users are more susceptible to malignant alterations. The aim of this study was morphometric evaluation of the effects of using waterpipe on normal oral mucosa.

Materials And Methods: IN A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY, CYTOLOGIC SMEAR SAMPLES FROM THE FOLLOWING THREE DIFFERENT AREAS: buccal mucosa, lateral surface of the tongue, and floor of the mouth (right) were taken from 40 smokers, 40 waterpipe users, and 40 normal individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of progesterone receptors (PRs) in salivary gland tumors, specifically pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), due to their morphological similarities with breast tumors.
  • The researchers conducted a cross-sectional analysis on 29 tissue samples to assess PR expression, finding negative staining in most ACC and PA samples, with minimal presence in normal salivary tissues.
  • The conclusion reveals that despite the importance of progesterone in normal gland function, it does not contribute to tumor development or response to hormone therapy in PA and ACC, nor is there a link between PR expression and tumor grade in ACC.

Purpose: The role of the HER family in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) is not well-defined. This study was aimed to assess the frequency of HER2/neu overexpression in oral carcinogenesis.

Materials And Methods: Expression of HER2/neu oncoprotein in OSCCs (N= 18), oral epithelial dysplasia (N= 18) and normal oral mucosa (N= 18) was assessed by immunohistochemistry using a cerbB2 antibody kit.

Central Giant Cell Granulomas (CGCGs) may manifest as radiolucencies anywhere in the mandible or maxilla. In rare cases, it can appear as a localized periradicular area and mimic an endodontic lesion. This case report presents an uncommon location of CGCG which was not accurately diagnosed nor timely treated.
