Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most common cause of cancer death and disability in the world. Citrus species and their constituents have many biological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. This study aimed to assess the anti-carcinogenic effects and postulate the possible mechanisms of action for Citrus limon fruit peel hydroethanolic extract (CLFPHE) and limonene in diethylnitrosamine (DEN)/2-acetylaminofluorene (2AAF)-induced HCC in male Wistar rats.

Introduction: Haemophilic arthropathy (HA) is the most frequent complication in people with haemophilia (PWH). MRI is the gold standard to assess HA, however, there are limitations to its use in low-resourced areas.

Aim: Primary; to compare clinical-functional, laboratory, and ultrasonographic joint scores with MRI scores to determine a reasonable alternative to MRI.

The current research aims to study the therapeutic efficacy of alpha-lipoic acid (α-LA) and caffeine-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (Caf-CNs) against cardiovascular complications induced by obesity. Rats were divided randomly into: control, high fat diet (HFD) induced obesity rat model, obese rats treated with α-LA and/or Caf-CNs. Triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C), Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) as well as activities of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) significantly increased in the serum of obese rats.

This study compared the histologic response of a pulp capping material Matreva MTA modified with different concentrations of aloe vera (AV) solutions to Biodentine cement. Ninety dogs' teeth were included and categorized according to the capping material into five groups (18 teeth each); Group I (Biodentine), group II (Matreva MTA), group III (Matreva MTA 10% AV), group IV (Matreva MTA 20% AV) and group V (Matreva MTA 30% AV). The histopathological findings were recorded at 2, 4, and 8 weeks.

Background: Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) has been demonstrated in vitro to sensitize several breast cancer cell lines and to be a safe, non-toxic drug with anti-skin cancer action in mice. Furthermore, plasmonic photothermal treatment using gold nanorods has been authorized as a novel method for in vitro and in vivo cancer therapy.

Purpose: Visceral artery pseudoaneurysms (VAPAs) are uncommon in clinical practice but may have serious clinical outcomes up to death. Endovascular management is a safe effective alternative option to traditional surgical procedures. This study assesses the outcome of different embolic materials and techniques used in the endovascular management of VAPAs.

Objectives: To analyze the acute and short-term deformation changes of both right (RV) and left (LV) ventricular wall before and after transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) secundum in children.

Outcome Measures: To determine the feasibility of tissue Doppler and myocardial deformation imaging for evaluating RV and LV functions in children undergoing transcatheter ASD closure.

Patients And Methods: A prospective study was performed for 32 children with hemodynamic significant ASD secundum before and 6 months after percutaneous ASD closure in the Pediatric Cardiology Division of Specialized Pediatric Hospital, Cairo University.

Introduction: Lead (Pb) is an environmental toxic metal that threatens human health. Umbelliferone (UMB) is a coumarin with known medicinal and protective properties against cytotoxicity. This study explored the ameliorative effect of UMB against Pb-induced testicular toxicity in rats, focusing on steroidogenesis, oxidative stress and inflammation.

Background: Large atrial septal defects (ASDs) in children cause increased volume overload of the right side of the heart which in turn lead to impairment of left ventricular (LV) performance.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate immediate LV rotational deformation changes in children with large ASDs post-device closure and removal of right ventricle (RV) volume overload.

Patients And Methods: Twenty children who underwent transcatheter closure (TCC) of large secundum ASDs were included in the study.

Little data are published about right ventricular (RV) growth and function in infants and neonates after balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty (BPV) for critical valvular pulmonary stenosis (PS). We aimed to assess the RV growth and function during 1 year after BPV for critical valvular PS in neonates and infants. A total of 41 infants and neonates with isolated critical valvular PS who underwent BPV from August 2016 to Sep 2018 were enrolled in the study.

Background: Mortality rates increase due to iron deposition in the cardiac muscles of thalassemia major (TM) patients. Iron overload cardiomyopathy could be treated with a combination therapy of an iron chelator and an L-type calcium channel blocker. We designed a randomized controlled study to assess the potential of amlodipine, alongside chelation, in reducing myocardial iron concentration in TM patients compared with a placebo.

Background: The use of T2* magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been promoted by recent studies as a noninvasive method for the detection of iron overload in thalassemia major patients. This study aims to estimate the iron load in the heart and liver of thalassemia major patients using T2* MRI and to determine its correlation with the left ventricle ejection fraction and serum ferritin level.

Methods: Forty β-Thalassemia major patients were included in the study.

Aim: Doppler ultrasonography can be used to assess the progression of vascular (arterial sclerosis) and parenchymal (glomerular sclerosis and crescents) renal damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of some sonographic and Doppler parameters as non-invasive markers of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renal histopathological damage in children.

Methods: A cohort of 84 children were enrolled in a case-control study (42 with CKD stages 2-5 and 42 healthy children).

Background And Study Aims: Determination of the presence and degree of liver fibrosis is essential for the prognosis and treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C. Non-invasive methods of assessing fibrosis have been developed to reduce the need for biopsy. We determined the efficacy of shear wave elastography (SWE) and colour Doppler velocity as non-invasive methods for the assessment of liver fibrosis compared to liver biopsy among patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

Background/aims: To evaluate the short-term outcome of the decision taken by the Hepatoma Board for the treatment of Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Materials And Methods: This was a prospective descriptive study involving 74 patients with HCC diagnosed by the known criteria. The decisions taken by the Hepatoma Board for the 74 patients were as follows: 1- surgical resection (7 patients), 2- local ablative therapy (LAT) (22 patients), 3- conventional transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) (24 patients), and 4- palliative supportive care (21 patients).

Repeated chest radiography is required for the diagnosis and follow-up of neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and carries the risk of radiation hazards. Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a non-invasive bedside diagnostic tool that has proven to be effective in the diagnosis of RDS. Our aim was to assess the role of LUS with respect to the standard chest X-ray (CXR) in the detection of complications of RDS in neonates.

A prospective study was performed on 24 patients to evaluate the early results of our experience with minimally invasive distal metatarsal osteotomy to treat mild-to-moderate hallux valgus deformities in adults. After failure of conservative treatment and persistence of footwear-related pain, a percutaneous distal first metatarsal osteotomy was performed, stabilized by a Kirschner wire, followed by immediate weight bearing. At final follow-up, clinical assessment showed that 31 of 36 patients were satisfied with their results.
