Introduction: We showed in a phase II randomised controlled trial (RCT) that oral sildenafil citrate in term labour halved operative birth for fetal distress. We outline the protocol for a phase III RCT (can ntrapartum ildnafil safely vert the isks of ontraction-induced ypoxia? (iSEARCH)) of 3200 women in Australia to assess if sildenafil citrate reduces adverse perinatal outcomes related to intrapartum hypoxia.

Methods And Analysis: iSEARCH will enrol 3200 Australian women in term labour to determine whether up to three 50 mg oral doses of sildenafil citrate versus placebo reduce the relative risk of a primary composite end point of 10 perinatal outcomes potentially related to intrapartum hypoxia by 35% (from 7% to 4.

The nervous system of metazoans is involved in host-pathogen interactions to control immune activation. In , this includes sleep induction, mediated by neuropeptide-like proteins (NLPs), which increases the chance of survival after wounding. Here we analyzed the role of NLP-27 in the infection of with the nematode-trapping fungus Early responses of were the upregulation of , the induction of paralysis (sleep), and neurodegeneration of the mechanosensing PVD (Posterior Ventral Process D) neurons.

Introduction: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) inform healthcare decisions. It is now apparent that some published RCTs contain false data and some appear to have been entirely fabricated. Systematic reviews are performed to identify and synthesise all RCTs that have been conducted on a given topic.

Article Synopsis
  • The Australian Placental Transfusion Study looked at how long to wait before cutting the umbilical cord in babies, comparing waiting at least 60 seconds to waiting 10 seconds or less.
  • The study found that waiting longer might help reduce the chances of babies dying or having disabilities by 17%.
  • However, the results aren't super strong because a few missing data points could change things, so future studies should try to collect all important information to make the results more reliable.

Consistent basis sets of triple-zeta valence quality for the elements La-Lu were derived for periodic quantum-chemical solid-state calculations. They are an extension of the pob-TZVP-rev2 [D. Vilela Oliveira, et al.

Introduction: The management of active bleeding with haemodinamic lability in the paediatric trauma patient is difficult and generally leads to damage control surgery. Vascular Interventional Radiology (VIR) techniques are useful for the diagnosis as for the definitive treatment.

Aim: The aim of our study was to describe our experience and evaluate effectiveness of VIR in the management of the paediatric trauma patient with active bleeding signs.

Introduction: Paediatric LTI is associated with significant morbid-mortality. Although historically first line treatment was surgical, conservative management is making headway. The purpose of this study was to analyze the management and surgical indications of LTI treated at our institution.

Phospholipase D of rat brain synaptosomal membranes was tested with phosphatidylcholine as the substrate for its specificity in the use of primary alcohols as transphosphatidylation co-substrates. The efficiency of the reaction was related to the hydrophobicity and the membrane penetrating capacity of the alcohol molecule. Phosphatidylalcohol formation could be detected up to 1-octanol but not for alcohols with longer hydrocarbon chains (C(9), C(10)).

Recent development of transdermal therapy permits application of estrogen, usually produced in the ovaries, in physiological dosage by means of continuous release from either an epidermal patch or dermal application of a gel. Transdermal therapy with progesterone, however is impossible due to poor dermal absorption and high dose requirements (release from corpora lutea: 25 mg/24 hours). Two other possibilities have been proposed.

The second messenger diacylglycerol (DAG), chiefly derived from phosphatidylcholine (PC) or from phosphatidylinositol (PI), through the activation of specific phospholipases C (PLC), plays a key role in cellular stimulation. The activation of a particular PLC was simulated in intact HeLa cells by treatment with exogenous PC-PLC (Cl. perfringens) or with PI-PLC (B.

In response to epidermal growth factor (EGF), HeLa cells and A431 cells rapidly accumulate substantial amounts of phosphatidic acid (up to 0.16 and 0.2 micrograms/10(6) cells respectively), which represents approx.

The phorbol ester 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA; also called phorbol myristate acetate) and epidermal growth factor both rapidly inhibit the transition of HeLa cells from G2 phase to mitosis in a reversible fashion with characteristics of a receptor-mediated response. It was proposed that an intracellular mediator was responsible for this inhibition. In searching for a common mediator elicited by the action of both ligands, the time course of generation of phospholipid metabolites was compared with the cell cycle response of the G2 cohort monitored by time lapse analysis.

Two structural genes for the Thermus thermophilus elongation factor Tu (tuf) were identified by cross-hybridization with the tufA gene from E. coli. The sequence of one of these tuf genes, localized on a 6.
