Freshwater lenses connect the terrestrial and marine realm via groundwater discharge at the edges of islands and serve as drinking water resources. We studied the redox-sensitive metals U, Mo, V, and Tl along the redox gradient of fresh groundwater lenses on Spiekeroog Island, northern Germany. Groundwater solute concentrations were linked to groundwater age and redox characteristics.

Fluoride release from carbonate-rich fluorapatite during managed aquifer recharge: Model-based development of mitigation strategies.

Fluoride-bearing apatite minerals such as fluorapatite (FAP: Ca(PO)F) and related carbonate-rich fluorapatites (CFA: Ca(PO)(CO,F)F), which occur ubiquitously as trace components of rocks and sediments, may act as sources for geogenic groundwater fluoride contamination. CFA dissolution often occurs in conjunction with declining dissolved calcium concentrations. Therefore, managed aquifer recharge (MAR) operations using deionised or low calcium source water are at risk of disturbing the naturally persisting geochemical equilibrium between CFA and the ambient groundwater and induce fluoride mobilisation.

Problem-based learning: A strategy to foster generation Z's critical thinking and perseverance.

Educators are concerned about Generation Z's inexperience with higher order critical thinking and tendency to give up or move on when faced with challenges. While acknowledging that this generation brings technological skills and an inclusive mindset that will enhance our profession, educators are challenged to adapt teaching strategies to promote critical thinking and foster perseverance. This manuscript will recount the attributes of Generation Z and describe problem-based learning as a strategy to enhance critical thinking and perseverance.

Awakening the entrepreneur within: Entrepreneurial identity aspiration and the role of displacing work events.

This study develops and tests a model of the transition from paid employment to entrepreneurship using a sample of 226 adults currently in paid employment. Building on a seminal but largely untested insight from Shapero (1975), we used theoretical logic from event system theory to propose that displacing work events moderate the effect of entrepreneurial identity aspirations, a possible-self role identity, on engagement in nascent entrepreneurial activities (discovery and exploitation behaviors). Results show that entrepreneurial identity aspirations were more strongly positively related to entrepreneurial discovery behaviors among employees who experienced a displacing work event in their current workplace; discovery behaviors in turn related to entrepreneurial exploitation behaviors.

Learning Delegation Through Role-Play: A Problem-Based Learning Activity for Nursing Students.

According to the American Nurses Association and National Council of State Boards of Nursing 2019 guidelines, teaching strategies are needed to engage students in the application of delegation knowledge and skills. The investigation of solid-liquid interfaces is pivotal for understanding processes like wetting, corrosion, and mineral dissolution and growth. The graphite-water interface constitutes a prime example for studying the water structure at a seemingly hydrophobic surface. Surprisingly, in a large number of atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments, well-ordered stripes have been observed at the graphite-water interface.

Referents or role models? The self-efficacy and job performance effects of perceiving higher performing peers.

What are the effects of perceiving peers' higher performance? Social-cognitive theory emphasizes the positive influence that perceiving higher performers can have on observer task and job performance (because observational learning from role models enhances self-efficacy). Social comparison theory emphasizes the negative self-evaluations that accompany perceiving higher performers, which should under many circumstances reduce self-efficacy and subsequent task and job performance. To more fully understand the effects of perceiving higher performance, we argue the effects of perceived higher performers on observer task and job performance depend on individuals' disposition in how they cognitively process coworkers' performance.

The aims of this study were to implement and evaluate an innovative collaborative event with hospitalized patients to help develop dental hygiene and nursing students' interprofessional competence. The Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS) was used to assess the students' perceptions of interprofessional skill acquisition. Participants were 24 dental hygiene and 25 nursing students at the University of Southern Indiana in spring 2016.

A randomized study to evaluate the effect of exercise on fatigue in people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis treated with fingolimod.

Background: Fatigue is a major symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS) in patients, and it has been shown to improve with physical exercise. Although fingolimod might lessen fatigue, it is unclear how patients treated with fingolimod react to physical activity regarding fatigue.

Objective: This study evaluated the effect of an exercise intervention on fatigue in relapsing-remitting MS patients receiving fingolimod.
