Article Synopsis
  • - Celiac disease (CD) is an immune disorder triggered by gluten in those genetically predisposed, with worldwide prevalence around 1%, typically diagnosed through antibody testing followed by an invasive biopsy.
  • - This study analyzed the medical records of 94 patients diagnosed with CD through biopsy, focusing on the levels of anti-tTGA antibodies and their correlation with the severity of lesions (Marsh grading).
  • - Findings suggest that high serum levels of anti-tTGA antibodies (greater than 10 times the upper limit of normal) can reliably indicate severe CD lesions (Marsh grade 3) without the need for a biopsy.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and therapeutic effects of orally administered AKST4290 (formerly BI 144807 and ALK4290) in treatment-naive patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Methods: In this prospective, multicenter, open-label Phase 2a pilot clinical study, 30 patients with newly diagnosed neovascular age-related macular degeneration self-administered AKST4290 (400 mg) orally twice daily for 6 weeks. Patients were examined weekly for safety, to measure best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and to perform exploratory morphologic assessments.

The nanostructured, inner-coupled Bismuth oxyhalides (BiOXX'; X, X' = Cl, Br, I; X≠X') heterostructures were prepared using Quercetin (Q) as a sensitizer. The present study revealed the tuning of the band properties of as-prepared catalysts. The catalysts were characterized using various characterization techniques for evaluating the superior photocatalytic efficiency and a better understanding of elemental interactions at interfaces formed in the heterojunction.

Hair transplant surgery per se has low risk, is relatively safe, and has minimum incidence of complications. However, it is a well-accepted fact that no medical science procedure exists without any potential risk of complications. The complication may be a single complaint in the form of pain, itching, dissatisfaction related to the procedure's outcome, or surgical complication in the form of infection, wound dehiscence or skin necrosis.

Follicular unit extraction (FUE), now named as follicular unit excision, is one of the methods of harvesting hair follicles from the donor area for implanting in the recipient area. The occipital scalp area is the most common donor area, but nonscalp donor areas like beard, chest, and other hairy body parts can be used as donor hair follicle area. The extraction of the hair follicle leaves a tiny circular scar over the donor area.

The emergence of a novel Corona virus (COVID 19) originated on December 19 from China. The city of Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province, China, is responsible for an outbreak of respiratory illness known as COVID 19 and it has been rapidly spread across the world claiming millions of lives. The sudden outbreak of novel Coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 or 2019-nCoV), is a big concern for their speedy mitigation using the predictable treatment and creating its approach around the world.

Objectives: To understand the dynamics of infectivity of COVID-19 and allay the fear and anxiety associated with it in healthcare workers and the society.

Case Presentation: Three individuals accompanied their pediatric patients in the COVID ward but did not develop infection. Information about their knowledge and perspective about the disease and the protective measures undertaken by them during their stay in the hospital was gathered by administering a questionnaire 14 days after discharge.

Objectives: Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, diagnosis of which is challenging as many unrelated conditions may mimic seizure. Epilepsy impairs the quality of life of patients due to associated physical and psychological trauma. Epileptic patients are also at increased risk of premature death due to autonomic disturbance and fatal accidents.

Unlabelled: Hair transplant is becoming the most common cosmetic procedure across the world with demand for higher density and coverage of baldness. This needs more number of donor hair follicles. Scalp donor has limitations to fulfill the required number of follicles for Norwood Grade VI and VII baldness.

FUE or follicular unit excision is one of the methods for hair follicle harvesting in hair transplantation. FUE involves harvesting hairs from the donor area, under local anesthesia which is most commonly the scalp but occasionally beard, chest and other parts of the body, using a circular punch less than a mm, mounted on a manual handle or a motorized hand device or more recently a robotic device. First hair transplant was done by Dr Shoji Okuda in 1937.

There is limited information available in North Carolina on the current burden of, and racial disparities in, diabetic retinopathy (DR), a major complication associated with diabetes mellitus (DM). This study aims to describe the overall trend of, and racial/ethnic disparities in, DR among adults with DM in North Carolina. Data were from 13 waves (2000, 2002-2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015) of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

In the recent past, bismuth oxyhalides (BiOX) have been widely used for the photocatalytic degradation of the organic pollutants and other environmental remediation because of their higher stability, economic viability, nontoxicity and effective charge separation. We begin with the review of the different approaches adopted so far for BiOX (X = Cl, Br, and I) synthesis and a study of their photocatalytic performances under UV and visible light towards the various organic as well as inorganic pollutants. Later on, a study on further enhancement of the efficiency of BiOX under UV and visible light irradiation using recent advancements would be presented.
