Importance: It is well known that altitude ascent with intravitreal gas can cause expansion of gas and intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation. According to Boyle's law, the gas bubble will not expand unless a higher altitude than the gas insertion site has been reached. We report four cases in which intravitreal gas was injected at an altitude of 790 m (Jerusalem).

We present a neonate with a seizure disorder who acutely developed pupillary mydriasis secondary to lidocaine overdose. We suggest adding this side effect to the list of untoward effects of lidocaine and to the differential diagnosis of fixed dilated pupils in neonates treated with lidocaine.

Background: Pregnant women who have high myopia, a history of retinal detachment or retinal holes, or have known lattice degeneration are frequently referred to an ophthalmologist for advice concerning the management of pregnancy and labor, i.e. whether a spontaneous vaginal delivery can be allowed and whether prophylaxis for high-risk retinal pathology is indicated.

Essential thrombocythemia is a myeloproliferative disorder with an increased amount of abnormal platelets, causing both hemorrhagic and thrombotic pathology. Some of its systemic complications include deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary emboli, myocardial infarcts, and renal vessel thrombosis among others. We present the rare case of a woman suffering from essential thrombocythemia with the sudden loss of vision in her right eye, caused by central retinal artery occlusion.

A recent study has shown that ODD has a greater tendency to form in eyes with a small scleral canal. It would therefore seem probable to find a higher rate of ODD in hypermetropic eyes.

A case of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with high myopia is presented in a 17 year old boy with the typical characteristics of the Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome. Although multiple eye anomalies are known to occur in this syndrome, the occurrence of retinal detachment has not been reported up to now. The importance of including a thorough fundus examination in the routine eye examination of these patients is emphasized.

In this report we present seven cases of eye injuries which workers claimed were caused by work accidents. Each case helps to illustrate the various guidelines we use in making a medical judgement as to whether or not a specific ocular problem was, indeed, the result of a work accident.

The aim of the procedure is to utilize the action of the frontalis muscle, innervated by the seventh nerve, to mechanically raise the droopy eyelid. The most common materials used for the sling are autogenous or preserved fascia lata and synthetic products such as nylon or dacron sutures.

Abnormal zinc and copper metabolism have been described in several retinal disorders affecting the retinal pigment epithelium. An infrequent presentation of senile macular degeneration in high myopia is well known. We examined the blood for zinc and copper and the urine for copper of three groups of patients, one consisting of high myopia, another with high myopia and primary retinal detachment and the other a group of patients with senile macular degeneration.

It took an average of 25.6 months for the second tears to develop, and almost all of the recurrent tears were the same distance from the limbus as the primary tear.

The traction technique included the use of force equivalent to 25% of body weight, directed at an angle of (15) to the plane of the bed. A mechanical analysis of the technique is described and the results of treatment and the efficacy of the technique discussed.

In a previous work abnormalities in the copper and zinc metabolism in high myopic patients were found. Primary Retinal Detachment is a common complication of High Myopia. In order to establish further their relationship, a study of the metabolism of these metals was performed in myopic patients with Retinal Detachment.

In a previous study, we found such abnormalities in high myopic Caucasian patients. Since the incidence of myopia, and the connection of the latter with retinal detachment, in the black are different from those found in the Caucasian, we modeled the present study on the black after the above-mentioned one carried out on the Caucasian.
