Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrinopathy. Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN1) is a rare autosomal dominantly inherited endocrine tumor predisposition syndrome, with one of main manifestations being primary hyperparathyroidism. We retrospectively evaluated a set of 1011 patients who underwent surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism between the years 2018-2022, and found 78 (8 %) patients who underwent reoperations and 27 patients with MEN1 syndrome.

The Btla inhibitory receptor limits innate and adaptive immune responses, both preventing the development of autoimmune disease and restraining anti-viral and anti-tumor responses. It remains unclear how the functions of Btla in diverse lymphocytes contribute to immunoregulation. Here, we show that Btla inhibits activation of genes regulating metabolism and cytokine signaling, including Il6 and Hif1a, indicating a regulatory role in humoral immunity.

The complicated crown-root fracture of young permanent teeth is an uncommon traumatic dental injury that is usually treated in a complex way and is demanding not only for the dentist but even for the treated child. In this case report, we present the conservative treatment of a maxillary central incisor in a 10-year-old boy after a traumatic dental injury. Treatment included partial pulpotomy and adhesive fragment reattachment after reflection of the mucoperiosteal flap.

Introduction: There are only sporadic references in literature regarding general medicine and dentistry student´s preparedness for Histology, study resources and how students might use them in the era of virtual microscopy.

Methods: A structured questionnaire was used to evaluate students´ opinion, with 192 students of general medicine and 82 students of dentistry responding.

Results: The dentistry students evaluate their previous knowledge of basic high school disciplines as less helpful when compared to their general medicine colleagues, but this difference diminishes during the first year of medical school studies.

Somatic mutations in cancer cells may influence tumor growth, survival, or immune interactions in their microenvironment. The tumor necrosis factor receptor family member HVEM (TNFRSF14) is frequently mutated in cancers and has been attributed a tumor suppressive role in some cancer contexts. HVEM functions both as a ligand for the lymphocyte checkpoint proteins BTLA and CD160, and as a receptor that activates NF-κB signaling pathways in response to BTLA and CD160 and the TNF ligands LIGHT and LTα.

CD160 is highly expressed by NK cells and is associated with cytolytic effector activity. Herpes virus entry mediator (HVEM) activates NK cells for cytokine production and cytolytic function via CD160. Discoloration remains an unfavourable complication of otherwise successful regenerative endodontic procedure of immature teeth with necrotic pulp. This review presents a critical view on current knowledge of discoloration sources, its treatment and possible preventive modalities, dealing mainly with the use of antibiotics, ethylendiaminotetraacetic acid, calcium hydroxide, mineral trioxide aggregate, calcium silicate cements, sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidin during regenerative treatment and their possible interactions. Bleaching as a discoloration treatment modality is discussed as well.

The aim of this article is to describe the clinical case of the non-surgical retreatment of a failed revascularization/revitalization treatment (RRT). The retreatment was preceded by two sessions including an interim medication with calcium hydroxide and a modified irrigation protocol containing a highly-concentrated sodium hypochlorite and prolonged usage of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) to reverse unacceptable side effects of hypochlorite. During a 15- month follow-up, the healing of the periapical lesion, increased thickening of root canal walls and maturation of root was apparent.

The human cytomegalovirus opening reading frame UL144 is an ortholog of the TNF receptor superfamily member, herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM; ). HVEM binds the TNF ligands, LIGHT and LTa; the immunoglobulin inhibitory receptor, B and T lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA); and the natural killer cell-activating receptor CD160. However, UL144 selectively binds BTLA, avoiding activation of inflammatory signaling initiated by CD160 in natural killer cells.

In this prospective study, the role of the intact parathormone (iPHT) levels for the verification of pathologic parathyroid tissue removal during parathyroidectomy, was analyzed in 441 patients diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism. The level of intact parathormone was obtained before the initial incision (baseline level) and 10 minutes after the pathologic parathyroid gland removal (control value). In 80 % of cases, the decrease of intact parathormone was more than 50 % of the baseline level.

Regenerative endodontic procedures of immature teeth with necrotic pulp have become a part of therapeutic endodontic spectrum and are considered as an alternative to calcium hydroxide or mineral trioxide aggregate apexification.
