Recently, isothermal titration calorimetry coupled with H NMR has been used to probe ligand exchanges on colloidal quantum dots, revealing the importance of the composition of the ligand shell on exchange thermodynamics. To determine if tendon cell ciliary length could be used as a biomarker of cytoskeletal tensional homeostasis, 20 mm long adult rat tail tendons were placed in double artery clamps set 18 mm apart to create a 10% laxity. The tendons were allowed to contract over a 7 day period under culture conditions. At 0, 1, 5, and 7 days the tendon cell cilia were stained and ciliary length measured using confocal imaging.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the trajectory of cases through four systems: child protection, law enforcement, the dependency courts, and the criminal courts.

Method: This study focused on a county selected from a 41-county telephone survey conducted for the National Incidence Study of Child Abuse and Neglect (NIS-3). For this analysis prospective samples were drawn from law enforcement (n=225) and the county child protection (CPS) agency (n=225) and followed through in-depth case tracking across all agencies and through both the dependency and criminal court systems.

The increased risk of lung cancer arising from chronic exposure to radon progeny in Czech uranium mines was analyzed on the basis of specific energy distributions for basal and secretory cell nuclei. The distributions were calculated from published results of lung microdosimetry. Whereas classical concepts consider that cell nuclei are hit one or more times by alpha particle tracks, the microdosimetry is able to distinguish glancing (non-lethal, possibly carcinogenic) hits from alpha particle traversals near to nucleus center (which probably inactivate the cell).

Mitotic index of the bone marrow cells was studied in femoral bone marrow of mice given 313 kBq 239Pu kg-1. The attention was turned to the femoral midshaft and the mitosis concentration, intensified by Colcemid stathmokinetic effect, was evaluated in a sampling field from endosteal surface to the central venous canal, throughout 68 weeks. It has been found that the plutonium effect in the sampling band is rather uniform except the points in subendosteal zone early after plutonium injection, where the mitotic index was reduced in such a way that the mitotic gradient, observed in controls, was affected.
