Autologous pericranium grafts for large orbital implants.

Introduction: Insufficient orbital volume in an anophthalmic socket is a major problem for the placement of an ocular prosthesis. This study reports the outcomes of the use of autologous pericranium graft in association with a large primary or secondary orbital implant in patients with a contracted socket and large orbital volume deficit.

Methods: This was a retrospective single-institution study.

OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY FEATURES OF SUBRETINAL FIBROSIS AFTER MYOPIC NEOVASCULARIZATION.

Purpose: To describe the optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography features of subretinal fibrosis in eyes with myopic choroidal neovascularization after natural evolution or secondary to intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy.

Methods: Retrospective observational case series. All eyes underwent a multimodal imaging examination including fluorescein angiography, spectral domain OCT, OCT angiography, and en face OCT.

Malignant transformation of a conjunctival keratoacanthoma requiring enucleation.

Purpose: We report a rare case of rapid transformation of a conjunctival keratoacanthoma (KA) into a highly aggressive squamous cell carcinoma requiring enucleation. To our knowledge, this is the second such case reported in the literature.

Methods: Case report.

The Incidence of Neovascularization in the Fellow Eye of Patients with Unilateral Choroidal Lesion: A Survival Analysis.

Purpose: To compare the difference in the rate of survival of unaffected fellow eyes between choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in the first eyes and retinal angiomatous proliferation (RAP) in the first eyes.

Design: Cohort retrospective study.

Participants: A total of 329 consecutive patients enrolled in our Eye Clinic between February 2006 and November 2014 were involved in the study.

Subconjunctival Orbital Fat Prolapse: An Update on Diagnosis and Management.

Subconjunctival prolapse of orbital fat is an uncommon clinical entity in which intraconal orbital fat herniates into the subconjunctival space. Its diagnosis is mainly clinical in character and usually based on palpation, patient clinical history, and lesion features along with a slit lamp examination. Its pathophysiology remains unclear.

Type A lymphomatoid papulosis presenting as an eyelid ulcer in a young man.

We present the case of an ulcerative lesion of the eyelid as first presentation of type A lymphomatoid papulosis (LP) in a young adult. LP is a rare cutaneous lymphoproliferative disease with a risk of associated systemic or cutaneous lymphoma.

Platelet-rich plasma to rescue an ulcerated orbital dermal fat graft.

Introduction: Central graft ulceration is a rare complication of an orbital dermal fat graft caused by diminished blood supply to the implant. This study reports on the efficacy and safety of the use of a single subconjunctival injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma to rescue an ulcerated orbital dermal fat graft.

Methods: Three patients, who had undergone autologous dermal fat graft to treat their anophthalmic socket, were given a 2-mL subconjunctival platelet-rich plasma injection in the exposed graft margins.

Resolution of conjunctival melanoma with topical interferon alpha 2b in a patient with mitomycin C intolerance.

Objective: To describe the clinical and histological resolution of a case of an inexcisable conjunctival melanoma using topical interferon alpha 2b (INFα2b) in a patient with mitomycin C (MMC) intolerance.

Case Report: Conjunctival melanoma is a rare, but potentially sight- and life-threatening, tumour. In cases of multiple lesions, or when surgical excision is not possible, topical combination chemotherapy with MMC and INFα2b has been described as first line therapy.

Vitrectomy for optic disc pit maculopathy: a long-term follow-up study.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of vitrectomy with induction of posterior vitreous detachment for the treatment of optic disc pit maculopathy.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated medical records and imaging studies of 11 consecutive patients with optic disc pit maculopathy who underwent vitrectomy at Sacco University Hospital, Milan, Italy, between October 2008 and December 2015. Induction of a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) was the aim of our surgery.

Background: Ozurdex is a 700 mcg dexamethasone intravitreal implant, approved for the management of macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion, and other related pathoglogiesAnterior chamber dislocation of Ozurdex represents an uncommon complication of the intravitreal injection, which can be managed by repositioning the implant into the vitreous cavity. Quantitative fundus autofluorescence in mice: correlation with HPLC quantitation of RPE lipofuscin and measurement of retina outer nuclear layer thickness.

Purpose: Our study was conducted to establish procedures and protocols for quantitative autofluorescence (qAF) measurements in mice, and to report changes in qAF, A2E bisretinoid concentration, and outer nuclear layer (ONL) thickness in mice of different genotypes and age.

Methods: Fundus autofluorescence (AF) images (55° lens, 488 nm excitation) were acquired in albino Abca4(-/-), Abca4(+/-), and Abca4(+/+) mice (ages 2-12 months) with a confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope (cSLO). Gray levels (GLs) in each image were calibrated to an internal fluorescence reference.

Fundus autofluorescence findings in a mouse model of retinal detachment.

Purpose: Fundus autofluorescence (fundus AF) changes were monitored in a mouse model of retinal detachment (RD).

Methods: RD was induced by transscleral injection of hyaluronic acid (Healon) or sterile balanced salt solution (BSS) into the subretinal space of 4-5-day-old albino Abca4 null mutant and Abca4 wild-type mice. Images acquired by confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (Spectralis HRA) were correlated with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), infrared reflectance (IR), fluorescence spectroscopy, and histologic analysis.
