Purpose: This study describes the ocular findings in dogs and cats diagnosed with Florida spot keratopathy (FSK) at a single institution.
Methods: Affected animals underwent a single comprehensive ophthalmic examination, with no follow-ups conducted. Data on patient demographics and clinical findings were collected and analyzed.
Background: Haws syndrome is a relatively common yet poorly understood disorder in cats.
Methods: Ten cats with acute haws syndrome underwent ophthalmic and physical examinations, bloodwork, faecal analysis and pharmacological testing with 1% phenylephrine. The cats were discharged with broad-spectrum deworming (with or without metronidazole) as well as topical tetrahydrozoline.
Objective: Investigate the tolerance, stability, and efficacy of topical 0.1% and 1% atropine in cats.
Procedures: Six cats underwent two trials separated by a 2-week washout period.
Bacterial keratitis is a common and serious condition that often leads to vision impairment and potential loss of the eye if not treated promptly and adequately. Topical blood products are often used concurrently with topical antibiotics, helping to mitigate corneal 'melt' from proteases released on the ocular surface. However, blood products are rich in albumin and could affect the efficacy of antibiotics due to drug-protein binding.

Objective: To establish normative data for selected ocular diagnostic tests and commensal conjunctival microflora and describe the incidence of ocular pathology in Chilean flamingos.
Animals Studied: A total of 41 Chilean flamingos were examined at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, Iowa.
Procedures: In 20 flamingos, blink rate was assessed undisturbed in their exhibit, then gentle manual restraint was used to assess palpebral fissure length (PFL), aqueous tear production (phenol red thread test [PRTT] in one eye, endodontic absorbent paper point tear test [EAPPTT] in the other), intraocular pressure (IOP; rebound tonometry), and fluorescein staining.
Purpose: Assess aqueous tear production when measured with the dogs' eyelids open or closed.
Methods: Thirty healthy dogs (15 Shih Tzus, 15 Labrador retrievers) were recruited. With the order of testing randomized for each dog, two sessions (separated by 30 min) of STT-1 testing were performed with the dogs' eyelids closed or open.
Background: Ophthalmoscopy is a valuable tool in clinical practice. We report the use of a novel smartphone-based handheld device for visualisation and photo-documentation of the ocular fundus in veterinary medicine.

Animals Studied: A 12-year-old female spayed domestic shorthair cat (case 1) and a 10-year-old female spayed domestic shorthair cat (case 2).
Procedures: Following marginal resection of the eyelid neoplasm, hemostasis was achieved using a handheld cautery unit then 1 mL of infracyanine green was injected into the surgical wound bed.
Objective: To evaluate the incidence of concurrent systemic injuries in dogs with traumatic ocular proptosis and their effect on survival to discharge. Additionally, to evaluate for associations between the type of trauma, each presenting vital signs, minimum laboratory database findings including packed cell volume, total solids, plasma glucose and lactate concentrations, and the diagnosis of concurrent systemic injury and survival.
Design: Retrospective study between the years 2017 and 2022.
Primary glaucoma is a painful, progressive, and blinding disease reported in many canine breeds, characterized by intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation in the absence of antecedent intraocular disease. Clinical observations of dogs with primary glaucoma suggest that many affected eyes develop concurrent intraocular inflammation in addition to elevated IOP. In this work, we summarize the current knowledge that relates inflammation to primary glaucoma in dogs, reviewing studies focused on genetics, physiology, histopathology, bioanalysis of ocular fluids, therapeutics, and clinical outcomes of glaucomatous patients.

Methods And Results: All ambulatory patients (n = 700, median age 55 years and 70% men) registered on the French national HT waiting list between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2019 were included.
Objectives: Determine tear film kinetics with different fluorescein concentrations and repeated eye drop administration at various time intervals.
Animals Studied: Six healthy Beagles.
Procedures: Six experiments were conducted on separate days: single eye drop administration (control) or two separate eye drops administered at 30 s, 1, 2, 5, and 10 min intervals.

Here, we discover that sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca ATPase (SERCA2) phosphorylation at serine 663 is a clinical and pathophysiological event of cardiac function. Procedures: Abstracts and contents of 204 original research articles in veterinary ophthalmology published in seven peer-reviewed journals between 2016-2020 were reviewed. Abstracts were considered inconsistent if they contained data that were either missing from or inconsistent with corresponding data in the article's body.
Purpose: To describe the surgical technique and clinical outcomes of the glabellar flap and its modification for the reconstruction of the medial canthus following resection of tumors in three dogs and two cats.
Methods: Three dogs (7-, 7-, and 12.5-year-old mixed breeds) and two cats (10- and 14-year-old Domestic shorthair) presented with a 7-13 mm tumor affecting the eyelid and/or conjunctiva in the medial canthal region.
Purpose Of Review: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly prevalent in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), representing a major factor of adverse outcomes. In clinical practice, it is one of the main reasons for not initiating, not titrating, and even withdrawing efficient heart failure drug therapies in patients.
Recent Findings: Despite limited data, studies show that HFrEF therapies maintain their benefits on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with CKD.
Objective: Determine the precorneal retention time of five different ocular lubricants commonly used in dogs.
Animals Studied: Six healthy Beagle dogs (n = 12 eyes).
