Understanding how participation in co-creation processes shapes experiences is important as it can offer insights into the improved development and effective use of such processes. It has been shown by use of activity monitoring that it is difficult to achieve 10 min of completely uninterrupted walking in the free-living urban environment where we have obstacles such as roads to cross. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of short interruptions in walking on the rate of oxygen uptake (ml · kg · min) to determine if walking with short interruptions can still be considered continuous.

Methods: fifty-six community-dwelling older adults with an average age 79 (SD) years wore an ActivPAL accelerometer for 7 days and were assessed for a range of motor, cognitive and affective characteristics.
