Necrotizing soft tissue infections after injection therapy: Higher mortality and worse outcome compared to other entry mechanisms.

Objectives: Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections represent a rare entity of infection associated with a high mortality. The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze patients with an iatrogenic etiology of injection or infiltration to compare the outcome with other etiologies.

Methods: The study group consisted of 21 patients treated with a Necrotizing Fasciitis caused by injection or infiltration.

The German Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) is reliable, valid and responsive in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement.

Purpose: To determine the measurement properties of a German version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) in patients with hip or knee osteoarthritis undergoing total joint replacement (TJR).

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 486 consecutive patients. The LEFS and other self-reported outcome measures were administered at different time points and several classical measurement properties were determined.

Bone marrow oedema on MR imaging indicates ARCO stage 3 disease in patients with AVN of the femoral head.

Objectives: To test the hypothesis that bone marrow oedema (BME) observed on MRI in patients with avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head represents an indicator of subchondral fracture.

Methods: Thirty-seven symptomatic hips of 27 consecutive patients (53% women, mean age 49.2) with AVN of the femoral head and associated BME on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging were included.
