Background: Robotic total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) has garnered increasing attention in recent years, both clinically and in the media. The purpose of this study was to compare the volume of and messaging in published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) versus media reports on the topic of rTKA.
Methods: This was a systematic review of RCTs and media articles on rTKA.
Purpose: The potential influence of surgical sequence of elective hip-and-knee reconstructive surgery in relation to an infection-related procedure on postoperative infection rates is not clearly understood. Therefore, we aimed to examine the impact of surgical sequence on the incidence of postoperative infections within one-year and the longest available follow-up period in patients undergoing hip-and-knee reconstructive surgery.
Methods: A case-control study with propensity matching was utilized to examine elective surgeries conducted at Sunnybrook Holland Orthopaedic & Arthritic centre, Toronto, Canada between 2015 and 2018.
This systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aims to compare important clinical, functional, and radiological outcomes between robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (RATHA) and conventional total hip arthroplasty (COTHA) in patients with hip osteoarthritis. We identified published RCTs comparing RATHA with COTHA in Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, and Cochrane Library. View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate biomechanical differences of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, medial quadriceps tendon femoral ligament (MQTFL) reconstruction, and a combination of these techniques to restore lateral patellar constraint and contact pressures.
Methods: Eight fresh frozen cadaver knees were mounted to a custom jig with physiological quadriceps tendon loading. Flexion angles and contact pressure (CP) were dynamically measured using Tekscan® pressure sensors and Polhemus® Liberty 6 degree of freedom (6DOF) positioning sensors in the following conditions: 1) intact 2) MPFL and MQTFL deficient, 3) MPFL reconstructed, 4) Combined MPFL + MQTFL reconstructed, and 5) MQTFL reconstructed.
Introduction: Although differential outcomes based on sex are widespread in medicine and surgery, evaluation of sex-specific differences in the field of orthopaedic surgery in general - and arthroplasty in particular - are lacking. We hypothesised that morbidly obese male and female patients would have differing risks of surgical complications following primary total hip replacement.

Intramedullary (IM) nailing is the standard of care for adult lower extremity long bone fracture stabilisation. Key to this procedure is obtaining the correct entry point and trajectory for initial guide pin insertion. The purpose of this research was to study anterior cruciate ligament strain during jump landing by investigating its correlation with sagittal plane kinetic/kinematic parameters and by creating an empirical model to estimate the maximum strain. Whole-body kinematics and ground reaction forces were measured from seven subjects performing single leg jump landing and were used to drive a musculoskeletal model that estimated lower limb muscle forces.
