Discussing Weight in Real World GP Consultations: A Video Recording Analysis Study.

Objective: GPs have a complex role in obesity management due to patients' individualized experience of living with obesity, coupled with the challenge to deliver healthcare messages in non-stigmatizing ways. This study aimed to explore who initiates the topic of weight and how weight was discussed in real-world GP-patient consultations.

Method: A multi-disciplinary team, including obesity lived experience experts, undertook a secondary data analysis of 43 Australian video recorded consultations and patient surveys from The Digital Library using descriptive content analysis.

Development and formative evaluation of website-based tool to support healthy lifestyles in family day care.

Issue Addressed: Nutrition and physical activity practices in Australian family day care are suboptimal. A web-based tool was co-developed with family day care service providers and educators, health promotion staff and the New South Wales Ministry of Health to promote healthier nutrition and physical activity practices through an existing quality improvement process.

Methods: Formative evaluation was conducted in January-February 2023.

Four novel nontuberculous mycobacteria species: sp. nov., sp. nov., sp. nov. and sp. nov. revived from a historical Danish strain collection.

Four novel nontuberculous mycobacteria were discovered from a historical strain collection at the International Reference Laboratory of Mycobacteriology at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark. Phylogenetic analysis combining the 16S , internal transcribed spacer and 23S elements, as well as a single-copy core-gene (, , and ) analysis of these freeze-dried mycobacteria, clinically isolated from gastric lavage samples between 1948 and 1955, showed to be associated with type strains grouping within the Terra and Fortuitum-Vaccae clade. Phenotypic characteristics, biochemical properties and fatty acid and mycolic acid profiles supported the classification as novel strains.

Association of Molecular Detections of Microsporidia in Stool Samples with Clinical and Immunological Parameters in Ghanaian HIV Patients.

Although the etiological relevance of the detection of microsporidia in human stool samples remains uncertain, the immunological status of patients has been posited as an important determinant of potential clinical impact of these parasites. To further assess the interplay between the epidemiology of microsporidia and immunological markers, we conducted a study utilizing real-time PCR targeting , , , and , combined in a single fluorescence channel. The study involved a cohort of 595 clinically and immunologically well-characterized Ghanaian HIV patients, alongside 82 HIV-negative control individuals from Ghana.

Revisiting Antibiotic-Impregnated Cement Spacer for Diabetic Osteomyelitis of the Foot.

Introduction: Despite the rising global awareness and improvement of socioeconomic and living standards, the prevalence of diabetic osteomyelitis (DOM) and its complications has been increasing rapidly. This study aims to investigate the long-term prognosis of DOM of the foot treated using antibiotic-impregnated cement spacer (ACS) and the contributing risk factors for reoperation.

Methods And Materials: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 55 diabetic patients with Meggitt-Wagner Grade IIB wounds diagnosed with osteomyelitis of the foot, treated in our institution with excessive debridement, excision of the infected tissue, and implantation of antibiotic-impregnated cement spacer fixed with a Kirschner wire.

Birth weight and head circumference for 22-29 weeks gestation neonates from an international cohort.

Objective: Size at birth is a key indicator of in utero growth. Our objective was to generate sex-specific percentiles for birth weight and head circumference in neonates born between 22 and 29 weeks gestation from pregnancies without hypertension or diabetes and assess differences between vaginal and caesarean births and between singletons and twins.

Methods: We used data from 12 countries participating in the International Network for Evaluating Outcomes in Neonates database from 2007 to 2021.

Young adult drinking during the COVID-19 pandemic: Examining the role of anxiety sensitivity, perceived stress, and drinking motives.

Studies have shown that those high in anxiety were at increased risk for alcohol use during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tension reduction theory points to anxiety sensitivity (AS) as a potential risk factor. Drinking to cope may further increase this risk.

Climate Change Influences via Species Distribution Shifts and Century-Scale Warming in an End-To-End California Current Ecosystem Model.

Climate change can impact marine ecosystems through many biological and ecological processes. Ecosystem models are one tool that can be used to simulate how the complex impacts of climate change may manifest in a warming world. In this study, we used an end-to-end Atlantis ecosystem model to compare and contrast the effects of climate-driven species redistribution and projected temperature from three separate climate models on species of key commercial importance in the California Current Ecosystem.

Disentangling Sources of Momentum Fluctuations in Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb Collisions with the ATLAS Detector.

High-energy nuclear collisions create a quark-gluon plasma, whose initial condition and subsequent expansion vary from event to event, impacting the distribution of the eventwise average transverse momentum [P([p_{T}])]. Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

Humans perceive discrete events such as "restaurant visits" and "train rides" in their continuous experience. One important prerequisite for studying human event perception is the ability of researchers to quantify when one event ends and another begins. Typically, this information is derived by aggregating behavioral annotations from several observers.

Search for Fractionally Charged Particles with CUORE.

The Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) is a detector array comprised by 988 5  cm×5  cm×5  cm TeO_{2} crystals held below 20 mK, primarily searching for neutrinoless double-beta decay in ^{130}Te. Unprecedented in size among cryogenic calorimetric experiments, CUORE provides a promising setting for the study of exotic throughgoing particles. Using the first tonne year of CUORE's exposure, we perform a search for hypothesized fractionally charged particles (FCPs), which are well-motivated by various standard model extensions and would have suppressed interactions with matter.

Multi-omic profiling a defined bacterial consortium for treatment of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection.

Donor-derived fecal microbiota treatments are efficacious in preventing recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI), but they have inherently variable quality attributes, are difficult to scale and harbor the risk of pathogen transfer. In contrast, VE303 is a defined consortium of eight purified, clonal bacterial strains developed for prevention of rCDI. In the phase 2 CONSORTIUM study, high-dose VE303 was well tolerated and reduced the odds of rCDI by more than 80% compared to placebo.

Percutaneous coronary intervention during the shortage of iodinated contrast.

Objectives: A recent coronavirus-related factory shutdown led to a global shortage of iodinated contrast. The authors evaluated how the contrast shortage impacted percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).

Methods: Using a statewide database incorporating CathPCI registry data from 19 hospitals, the authors evaluated 2 time periods: pre-shortage (May 1, 2021 - April 30, 2022) and during the shortage (May 1, 2022 - October 31, 2022).

Introduction: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a biliary disorder associated with a high risk of end-stage liver disease and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Currently prediction of the unfavorable outcomes is hindered by the lack of valuable prognostic biomarkers.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of the autoantibodies in PSC and define their potential use as the predictors of progressive disease and CCA in a large, prospective cohort of PSC patients.

Atrial Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation: A Comprehensive Review of Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Management Strategies.

Further, we elucidate the mechanisms underlying AFTR, including tricuspid annular dilatation, right atrial enlargement, and dysfunction, which collectively contribute to the development of tricuspid regurgitation in the absence of significant pulmonary hypertension or left-sided heart disease.

VeloxChem: GPU-Accelerated Fock Matrix Construction Enabling Complex Polarization Propagator Simulations of Circular Dichroism Spectra of G-Quadruplexes.

An automatic code generated C++/HIP/CUDA implementation of the (auxiliary) Fock, or Kohn-Sham, matrix construction for execution in GPU-accelerated hardware environments is presented. The module is developed as part of the quantum chemistry software package VeloxChem, employing localized Gaussian atomic orbitals. The performance and scaling characteristics are analyzed in view of the specific requirements for self-consistent field optimization and response theory calculations.

Neurotransmitters are released from synaptic vesicles with remarkable precision in response to presynaptic calcium influx but exhibit significant heterogeneity in exocytosis timing and efficacy based on the recent history of activity. This heterogeneity is critical for information transfer in the brain, yet its molecular basis remains poorly understood. Here, we employ a biochemically-defined fusion assay under physiologically relevant conditions to delineate the minimal protein machinery sufficient to account for various modes of calcium-triggered vesicle fusion dynamics.

Relationship between language comprehension and chronic neurobehavioral symptoms in adults with mild traumatic brain injury.

Primary Objectives: Annually, millions of Americans sustain mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI), and some may experience neurobehavioral symptoms (NBS), like slow processing speed that persist chronically or longer than 6 months post injury. In turn, cognitive processes like language comprehension may be compromised. This study investigates the relationship between NBS and language comprehension in individuals with mTBI history and low or high NBS.

The Gift of Time, How Do I Want to Spend It? Exploring Preferences for Time Allocation Among Women with and without a Breast Cancer Diagnosis.

Background: Women's preferences for time allocation reveal how they would like to prioritise market work, family life, and other competing activities. Whilst preferences may not always directly translate to behaviour, they are an important determinant of intention to act.

Objective: We present the first study to apply a discrete choice experiment (DCE) to investigate time allocation preferences among women diagnosed with breast cancer and women without a cancer diagnosis.

Cannulation Configuration and its Effects on Bridging to Lung Transplant: Analysis of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization Registry.

Background: Donor stagnation and modification of lung allocation scores has resulted in a higher acuity of patient presentation prior to lung transplantation. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been utilized as a bridge to lung transplant (BTT) although the effect of cannulation strategy on outcomes has not been well investigated. We sought to analyze contemporary data on ECMO BTT utilizing a large, international registry of patients.

Randomized Pilot Trial of the Text-Based Adherence Game for Ghanaian Youth with HIV.

This study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a mobile intervention called the Text-Based Adherence Game (TAG). TAG aimed to improve HIV treatment adherence among young people with HIV (YPWH) in Ghana. Participants, YPWH aged 18 to 24, were recruited from an HIV clinic in Kumasi, Ghana where study procedures were conducted.
