The aim was to investigate the effects of different post-curing units on the chemical properties (degree of conversion) of 3D-printed resins for producing models in dentistry. The goal is to determine whether less-expensive post-curing units can be a viable alternative to the manufacturer's recommended units. Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) used in haematopoietic stem cell (HSC) cryopreservation has been linked to an increased incidence of adverse reactions following transplantation. Objective: Noninvasive diagnostics for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) have traditionally sought to predict main pulmonary artery pressure from qualitative or direct quantitative measures of the flow velocity pattern obtained from spectral Doppler ultrasound examination of the main pulmonary artery. A more detailed quantification of flow velocity patterns in the systemic circuit has been obtained by parameterizing the flow trace with a simple dynamic system model. Background: Pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) is the current standard for evaluating reactivity in children with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, PVR measures only the mean component of right ventricular afterload and neglects pulsatile effects. We recently developed and validated a method to measure pulmonary vascular input impedance, which revealed excellent correlation between the zero harmonic impedance value and PVR and suggested a correlation between higher-harmonic impedance values and pulmonary vascular stiffness.

We identified 18 patients with double-orifice mitral valve (DOMV) and intact atrioventricular (AV) septum out of 40,179 echocardiographic studies performed between 1997 and 2002 at Children's Hospital, Denver, CO. In this study we describe (1) the anatomic characteristics of the DOMV in the absence of AV septal defect, (2) the function of the mitral valve by spectral and color Doppler flow mapping, and (3) associated lesions. The topographic location of the orifices in the leaflets suggests possible embryologic mechanisms of DOMV.

Background: Current evaluation of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in children involves measurement of pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR); however, PVR neglects important pulsatile components. Pulmonary artery (PA) input impedance and ventricular power (VP) include mean and pulsatile effects and have shown promise as alternative measures of vascular function. Pemphigus vulgaris is one of a group of autoimmune disorders that are caused by autoantibodies against the desmoglein adhesion molecules of squamous epithelial cells. It is a rare form of immune dysfunction that can prove vexing to the patient and physician, but it has distinct clinical and histologic findings. We report a case of a patient with the autoimmune blistering disease pemphigus vulgaris localized to the oral cavity and discuss the important clinical, immunopathologic, and therapeutic factors of this disease.

Ectopic cervical thymic tissue is an uncommon cause of neck masses in children, with fewer than 100 cases reported in children who presented with primary neck masses. To illustrate the unique characteristics of these tumors, we report the case of a 13-month-old boy with ectopic thymic tissue presenting with asymptomatic, bilateral, and solid cervical masses. This case report highlights several unique findings: (1) the rare nature of solid thymic tumors compared with cystic lesions, (2) the utility of magnetic resonance imaging scanning with and without fat suppression for diagnosis, and (3) the risks of surgical removal of thymic tissue in children.
