Forty-two samples of feed, saliva, urines, and faeces collected from a cattle farm were investigated with the aim to evaluate the occurrence of glyphosate in faeces, urine and saliva. Glyphosate in the feed was also quantified to understand how it was assimilated by mammals. All cows excreted glyphosate in their faeces at concentrations between 57 and 983 ng g.

The enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol was designed to improve patient outcomes and decrease complications, opioid use, and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to examine the effectiveness of ERAS protocols implemented in orthognathic surgeries from 2017 to 2018 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital by measuring opioid use and PONV. Two groups were identified through chart review, a non-ERAS group (traditional) of patients who had surgery without a protocol and an ERAS group of patients who had surgery with the ERAS protocol.

Methods: The permeation assay was performed using porcine skin discs on Franz diffusion cells model. The isoflavone contents of the formulations were quantified in the different layers of the skin using a validated HPLC-PDA method.
Background: Intensive prophylactic use of antifungals leads to the increase of drug resistance and the need for new and more effective treatments are real. Plants from Leguminosae family are rich in flavonoids, for which numerous biological activities have been described, including antifungal effects.
Purpose: To screen methanolic extracts from Leguminosae species looking for alternative sources for antifungal agents (anti-dermatophyte and anti-Candida) and their innocuity.
Oxygenators are critical components of extracorporeal circuits used frequently in cardiopulmonary bypass and intensive care, but platelet activation and induction of a complex inflammatory response are usually observed with their use. To improve the biocompatibility of oxygenators, we developed a nitric oxide (NO)-releasing, self-assembled peptide amphiphile nanomatrix. The nanomatrix formed a homogenous coating over the microporous hollow fibers as demonstrated by scanning electron microscopy.

Neutrophil deficiency is the predominant risk factor for the development of IA, the most life-threatening condition associated with A. fumigatus exposure.

Bacterial biofilms are the worst aspect in the treatment of infections and now efforts have been made in the search for new molecular entities to overcome this situation. In this work, a compound isolated from marine associated fungi was capable to interfere with the adherence and biofilm formation of S.

Infections related to Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms are presently commonly associated to medical devices, increasing treatment costs for this type of infection. Alternatives to eliminate this kind of disease have been employed in screening programs using diverse marine-derived fungi source of bioactive compounds capable to combat biofilm formation.

Infection with this protozoan may have serious consequences, especially for women. Currently, 5-nitroimidazole drugs are the treatment of choice for trichomonosis, but the emergence of resistance has limited the effectiveness of this therapy.
