Automated feeders have long fed mice, livestock, and poultry, but are incapable of feeding zoo animals such as gorillas. In captivity, gorillas eat cut vegetables and fruits in pieces too large to be dispensed by automated feeders. Consequently, captive gorillas are fed manually at set times and locations, keeping them from the exercise and enrichment that accompanies natural foraging.

Insertion of the isonitrile formed a cyclic five-membered biradical [⋅P(NTer) C(R)P⋅] (2R, R=phenyl, naphthyl) in the first step, followed by C-H activation at the aryl substituent, resulting in novel azaphospholes (5R), which could be isolated and fully characterized. The formation of the azaphospholes can be prevented by the addition of a second equivalent of isonitrile, which causes the blocking of the radical centers in 2R by adduct formation (3R).

Methods: In this retrospective interventional study a total of 21 eyes from 21 patients with phthisis bulbi were treated at the Eye Clinic Sulzbach between August 2011 and June 2021. Patients who underwent a 23G pars plana vitrectomy received a vitreous substitute composed of (I) a non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (Healon GV), (II) a crosslinked hyaluronic acid-based hydrogel (UVHA), or (III) silicone oil (SO-5000).
Background: Purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical efficiency of 3D-printed permanent and provisional implant cemented fixed bridges produced via CAD/CAM technology using an interim and a permanent ceramic filled hybrid material.
Material And Methods: Two groups with twenty specimens each were designed and 3D-printed via digital light processing technology (DLP). A fracture strength test was performed.
Borrelial pathogens are vector-borne etiological agents of Lyme disease, relapsing fever, and disease. These spirochetes each encode several surface-localized lipoproteins that bind to components of the human complement system. BBK32 is an example of a borrelial lipoprotein that protects the Lyme disease spirochete from complement-mediated attack.

We hypothesized that cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI) would identify pathophysiological alterations in HFpEF and be amenable to rest and ergometer-stress CMR. Patients with exertional dyspnoea, signs of diastolic dysfunction (E/e' ≥ 8), and preserved ejection fraction (EF; ≥50%) on echocardiography were prospectively recruited and classified as HFpEF ( = 34) or noncardiac dyspnoea (NCD, = 34) according to pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) on right-heart catheterization (rest/stress ≥ 15/25 mmHg).

Methods: The correlation between accelerometer-measured physical activity and rates of macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning was measured in 735 eyes from 388 participants of the Progression Risk of Glaucoma: RElevant SNPs with Significant Association (PROGRESSA) study. The association between accelerometer-measured physical activity and cross-sectional SD-OCT macular thickness was then assessed in 8862 eyes from 6152 participants available for analysis in the UK Biobank who had SD-OCT, ophthalmic, comorbidity, and demographic data.
Purpose: The aim of this review is to highlight the unique factors that predispose geriatric patients to nephrolithiasis and to compare the utility and efficacy of surgical techniques in this specific patient population.
Methods: PubMed and EMBASE databases were reviewed, and studies were organized according to surgical treatments.
Results: Few prospective studies exist comparing kidney stone removal in the elderly to younger cohorts.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of a standardized feeding protocol and donor breast milk (DBM) provision on clinical outcomes in moderate preterm infants (MPT, 29-33 6/7 weeks gestational age).
Study Design: A protocol for MPT infants born > 1500 g was implemented clinically to standardize feeding advancements at 30 mL/kg/day. Infants < 33 weeks received DBM.
Blocking pyrimidine de novo synthesis by inhibiting dihydroorotate dehydrogenase is used to treat autoimmunity and prevent expansion of rapidly dividing cell populations including activated T cells. Here we show memory T cell precursors are resistant to pyrimidine starvation. Although the treatment effectively blocked effector T cells, the number, function and transcriptional profile of memory T cells and their precursors were unaffected.

Adoptive cellular therapy with virus-specific T cells (VST) has shown efficacy in various single-center trials. However, the scalability of this therapy is hampered by laborious production methods.

Background: Deficient interoception, the processing and perception of internal bodily signals, has been discussed as a mechanism underlying various mental disorders. First results indicate a mediating role of interoception in the interplay of traumatic childhood experiences and adult mental disorders. Traumatic childhood experiences may hinder the adequate processing, integration, and trust in bodily signals that are important in order to understand and regulate own needs and emotions, thereby increasing the vulnerability for mental disorders.

Although the pathophysiology of tinnitus has not been fully understood, clinical studies suggest that psychological symptoms of depression, anxiety, and somatization are increased in tinnitus patients. However, patients seeking medical treatment for tinnitus may be especially vulnerable.

Experimental studies suggest a direct cardiac effect of empagliflozin associated with an improvement in left ventricular diastolic function.
Methods: In the randomized, double-blind, two-armed, placebo-controlled, parallel group trial EmDia, patients with T2DM and elevated left ventricular E/E´ ratio were enrolled and randomized 1:1 to receive empagliflozin 10 mg/day versus placebo.

Recent evidence suggests that epigenetic reprogramming is an important mechanism for the adaptation of melanoma cells to the brain environment. In this study, the methylomes and transcriptomes of a cohort of matched melanoma metastases were evaluated by integrated omics data analysis.

Upregulation of COX2 (cyclooxygenase 2) and prostaglandin E (PGE) was linked to podocyte damage in GH. We explored the potential renoprotective effects of either separate or combined pharmacological blockade of EP2 (PGE receptor type 2) and EP4 (PGE receptor type 4) in GH.

Thus, we sought to determine the mechanisms of cardiovascular dysfunction and inflammation induced by aircraft noise in a mouse model of myocardial infarction (MI) and in humans with incident MI.
Methods And Results: C57BL/6J mice were exposed to noise alone (average sound pressure level 72 dB; peak level 85 dB) for up to 4 days, resulting in pro-inflammatory aortic gene expression in the myeloid cell adhesion/diapedesis pathways.
To examine how redlining, a historical racially discriminatory housing policy implemented by the Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC), is associated with current neighborhood determinants of health in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. We analyzed associations between census tract‒level HOLC color grades (red = "hazardous"; yellow = "declining"; blue = "desirable"; and green = "best") and a developed neighborhood determinants of health index (DOHI) consisting of 8 indicators of economic, social, governance, and physical environment characteristics using spatial regression analysis and controlling for change in the census tract's percentage of White residents. A total of 484 Detroit Metropolitan Area census tracts had HOLC grades.

Elephants have long been observed to grip objects with their trunk, but little is known about how they adjust their strategy for different weights. In this study, we challenge a female African elephant at Zoo Atlanta to lift 20-60 kg barbell weights with only its trunk. We measure the trunk's shape and wrinkle geometry from a frozen elephant trunk at the Smithsonian.
