Background: We assessed the effect of a closed-loop oxygen control system in pediatric patients receiving high-flow nasal oxygen therapy (HFNO).

Methods: A multicentre, single-blinded, randomized, and cross-over study. Patients aged between 1 month and 18 years of age receiving HFNO for acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF) were randomly assigned to start with a 2-h period of closed-loop oxygen control or a 2-h period of manual oxygen titrations, after which the patient switched to the alternative therapy.

Introduction: Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation (MI-E) is used as an airway clearance intervention in primary care (home ventilation), long-term care (prolonged rehabilitation after intensive care, neuromuscular diseases, and spinal cord injury), and increasingly in acute care in intensive care units (ICU).

Aim: We sought to develop in-depth understanding of factors influencing decision-making processes of health care professionals regarding initiation, escalation, de-escalation, and discontinuation of MI-E for invasively ventilated patients including perceived barriers and facilitators to use.

Methods: We conducted focus groups (3 in the Netherlands; 1 with participants from four European countries) with clinicians representing the ICU interprofessional team and with variable experience of MI-E.

We report a specially designed magnetic field gradiometer based on a single elliptical planar Hall effect (PHE) sensor, which allows measuring magnetic field at nine different positions in a 4 mm length scale. The gradiometer detects magnetic field gradients with equivalent gradient magnetic noises of ∼958, ∼192, ∼51, and ∼26 nT/m√ Hz (pT/mm√Hz) at 0.1, 1, 10, and 50 Hz, respectively.

In 2015 a surprising find of human bone fragments from a child was made in a collection of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, Berlin. These bone fragments from Southern Egypt date to 3400-3300 BC and represent the distal parts of both femora and the proximal parts of both tibiae (bones around the knee joint). The bones have a specific appearance, probably indicating a systemic disease.

In an end-stage midgut neuroendocrine tumor patient with carcinoid heart disease, right ventricular dysfunction, mildly reduced renal function, and refractory to 6 cycles of 177 Lu-HA-DOTATATE therapy, planar, and 22 hours SPECT/CT images were acquired after injection of 224 MBq of 203 Pb-VMT-α-NET to assess the feasibility of performing 212 Pb-VMT-α-NET therapy. A comparison of the 1.5 and 22 hours SPECT/CT images with 68 Ga-HA-DOTATATE PET/CT showed high uptake of 203 Pb-VMT-α-NET in liver metastases matching with the results of the PET/CT investigation.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has illustrated the critical need for effective prophylactic vaccination to prevent the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Intranasal vaccination is an attractive approach for preventing COVID-19 as the nasal mucosa is the site of initial SARS-CoV-2 entry and viral replication prior to aspiration into the lungs. We previously demonstrated that a single intranasal administration of a candidate adenovirus type 5-vectored vaccine encoding the receptor-binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (AdCOVID) induced robust immunity in both the airway mucosa and periphery, and completely protected K18-hACE2 mice from lethal SARS-CoV-2 challenge.
