Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by deficits in social cognition, self-referential processing, and restricted repetitive behaviors. Despite the established clinical symptoms and neurofunctional alterations in ASD, definitive biomarkers for ASD features during neurodevelopment remain unknown. In this study, we aimed to explore if activation in brain regions of the default mode network (DMN), specifically the medial prefrontal cortex (MPC), posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), superior temporal sulcus (STS), inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), angular gyrus (AG), and the temporoparietal junction (TPJ), during resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) is associated with possible phenotypic features of autism (PPFA) in a large, diverse youth cohort.

Background/objectives: Recent studies indicate that sleep and sleep disorders differ between men and women, but corresponding data in people with chronic lung diseases are lacking. This study aims to answer the question of what the sex-specific differences in sleep profiles and responses to elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) therapy in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) are.

Methods: Adult pwCF and a matched control group (adults with suspected sleep-disordered breathing undergoing in-laboratory polysomnography (PSG)) were included.

Objective: Cancer patients frequently report sleep problems. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is a 19-item instrument for assessing sleep problems. The main objective of this study was to analyze the usefulness of the PSQI in oncological research.

Health anxiety in cancer patients, assessed with the Whiteley Index.

Objective: Health anxiety (HA) is frequently observed in patients suffering from a severe disease such as cancer. This study aimed to test the psychometric properties of the Whiteley Index-7 (WI-7) measuring HA and to identify prognostic factors for heightened HA in cancer patients.

Methods: A sample of 1723 cancer patients, treated in a German rehabilitation clinic, completed the Whiteley Index-7, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder screener GAD-7, the Patient Health Questionnaire PHQ-9, the Fear of Progression questionnaire FoP-Q-12, the Concerns About Cancer Recurrence questionnaire CARQ-4, and two subscales of the EORTC QLQ-SURV100.

Influence of equipment choice and athletic experience on the incidence of kitesurfing injuries - A prospective observational study.

Background: Kitesurfing is a popular activity among recreational athletes in Germany, and the number of athletes is constantly increasing. The objective of this study was to examine the influence of athletic experience and equipment choice on the frequency of kitesurfing injuries in Germany.

Methods: Sixty-six athletes completed a standardized questionnaire at the beginning and end of a summer season.

Transition metal π-arene complexes enable the dearomatization of benzene rings to access diversified unsaturated carbocycles through multistep synthetic procedures involving sequential addition of nucleophiles and electrophiles. This work details a single-step dearomatization process by reaction of Ru(η-arene) complexes with enolates derived from α-halo or α-(tosyloxy)esters to directly transform π-coordinated arenes to ring-expanded cycloheptatrienes.

Structural and spectroscopic characterization of the peridinin-chlorophyll a-protein (PCP) complex from Heterocapsa pygmaea (HPPCP).

Light harvesting proteins are optimized to efficiently collect and transfer light energy for photosynthesis. In eukaryotic dinoflagellates these complexes utilize chlorophylls and a special carotenoid, peridinin, and arrange them for efficient excitation energy transfer. At the same time, the carotenoids protect the system by quenching harmful chlorophyll triplet states.

A longitudinal study of the relationship between alcohol-related blackouts and attenuated structural brain development.

Purpose: Alcohol-related blackouts (ARBs) are common in adolescents and emerging adults. ARBs may also be indicative of persistent, alcohol-related neurocognitive changes. This study explored ARBs as a predictor of altered structural brain development and associated cognitive correlates.

Sleep quality in cancer patients: a common metric for several instruments measuring sleep quality.

Purpose: Sleep problems are frequently observed in cancer patients. Multiple questionnaires for assessing sleep quality have been developed. The aim of this study was to present transfer rules that allow the conversion of the patients' scores from one questionnaire to another.

Treatment Expectations-You Get What You Expect-and Depression Plays a Role.

Positive treatment expectations demonstrably shape treatment outcomes regarding pain and disability in patients with chronic low back pain. However, knowledge about positive and negative treatment expectations as putative predictors of interindividual variability in treatment outcomes is sparse, and the role of other psychological variables of interest, especially of depression as a known predictor of long-term disability, is lacking. We present results of the first prospective study considering expectations in concert with depression in a sample of 200 patients with chronic low back pain undergoing an inpatient interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy.

Herein, we report the synthesis, analysis, and catalytic application of Ru(II) complexes supported by phenoxo ligands, which are isolobal alternatives to Cp.

Aryldiazonium salts remain a staple in organic synthesis and are still prepared largely in accord with the protocol developed in the 19th century. Because of the favorable reactivity that often cannot be achieved with other aryl(pseudo)halides, diazonium chemistry continues to grow. Facile extrusion of dinitrogen contributes to the desired reactivity but is also reason for safety concerns.

Postoperative Epidural Fibrosis: Challenges and Opportunities - A Review.

Postoperative epidural fibrosis (EF) is still a major limitation to the success of spine surgery. Fibrotic adhesions in the epidural space, initiated via local trauma and inflammation, can induce difficult-to-treat pain and constitute the main cause of failed back surgery syndrome, which not uncommonly requires operative revision. Manifold agents and methods have been tested for EF relief in order to mitigate this longstanding health burden and its socioeconomic consequences.

As cancer patients often suffer from fear of cancer progression (FoP), valid screening for FoP is of high relevance. The aims of this study were to test psychometric properties of two FoP questionnaires, to determine their relationship to other anxiety-related constructs, and to analyze the impact of sociodemographic and clinical factors on the FoP. Light chain amyloidosis (AL) is a systemic disease where fibrillar deposition of misfolded immunoglobulin light chains (LCs) severely affects organ function and results in poor prognosis for patients, especially when heart involvement is severe. Particularly relevant in this context is the cardiotoxicity exerted by still uncharacterized soluble LC species. Here, with the final goal of identifying alternative therapeutic strategies to tackle AL amyloidosis, we produced five llama-derived nanobodies (Nbs) specific against H3, a well-characterized amyloidogenic and cardiotoxic LC from an AL patient with severe cardiac involvement.

Evidence- and data-driven classification of low back pain via artificial intelligence: Protocol of the PREDICT-LBP study.

In patients presenting with low back pain (LBP), once specific causes are excluded (fracture, infection, inflammatory arthritis, cancer, cauda equina and radiculopathy) many clinicians pose a diagnosis of non-specific LBP. Accordingly, current management of non-specific LBP is generic. There is a need for a classification of non-specific LBP that is both data- and evidence-based assessing multi-dimensional pain-related factors in a large sample size.

The Relationship between Supportive Care Needs and Health-Related Quality of Life in Cancer Patients.

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between quality of life (QoL) and supportive care needs (SCNs) in cancer patients. It is difficult to relate SCNs to detriments in QoL since SCNs and QoL assessment tools generally comprise different dimensions that cannot be directly related to each other. Therefore, we developed a short questionnaire with eight dimensions for uniformly measuring SCNs, QoL, and the subjective importance of these dimensions.

Infection of the spine is a common pathology, but infection of a Charcot's spine is rare and is challenging to diagnose, especially in differentiating between the Charcot defect and the osteomyelitis defect. Surgical reconstruction has to be extremely individualized.
