Purpose: Preclinical models of cutaneous wound healing can be useful for improving clinical wound care. Oxygen Enhanced Photoacoustic imaging (OE PAI) can measure oxygenation, and Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) PAI can measure vascular perfusion. We investigated how a combined OE-DCE PAI protocol can measure vascular oxygenation and perfusion to a cutaneous healing model.

We evaluated the Nugent score against a multiplex real-time PCR (reference) for diagnosing bacterial vaginosis (BV) in 140 pregnant women. The Nugent score had a sensitivity of 60 %, a specificity of 81 % and a negative predictive value of 92 % - therefore a tool to rule out BV in pregnant women.

Purpose: Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Imaging (EPRI) can image the partial pressure of oxygen (pO) within in vivo tumor models. We sought to develop Oxygen Enhanced (OE) EPRI that measures tumor pO with breathing gases of 21% O (pO) and 100% O (pO), and the differences in pO between breathing gases (ΔpO). We present a patient who suffered an agricultural rollover trauma and developed a fracture-associated tissue infection caused by Mycobacterium smegmatis. Deregulated centrosome numbers are frequently found in human cancer and can promote malignancies in model organisms. Current research aims to clarify if extra centrosomes are cause or consequence of malignant transformation, and if their biogenesis can be targeted for therapy. Background The RACECAT (Transfer to the Closest Local Stroke Center vs Direct Transfer to Endovascular Stroke Center of Acute Stroke Patients With Suspected Large Vessel Occlusion in the Catalan Territory) trial was the first randomized trial addressing the prehospital triage of acute stroke patients based on the distribution of thrombolysis centers and intervention centers in Catalonia, Spain. The study compared the drip-and-ship with the mothership paradigm in regions where a local thrombolysis center can be reached faster than the nearest intervention center (equipoise region). We aimed to investigate whether a selective pre-PCR enrichment step improves test performance of RIDA®GENE EHEC/EPEC to detect diarrheagenic Escherichia coli from stool samples. Each of the 250 stool samples was analyzed for the presence of stx1/2 and eae both with and without pre-PCR enrichment in selective broth. In comparison to a reference method, sensitivities for stx1/2 and eae with and without pre-PCR enrichment were 84% (95%CI 70-93) and 89% (stx1/2, 95%CI 76-96), and 71% (95%CI 58-81) and 72% (eae, 95%CI 60-82), respectively.

Checkpoint kinase 1 (CHK1; encoded by CHEK1) is an essential gene that monitors DNA replication fidelity and prevents mitotic entry in the presence of under-replicated DNA or exogenous DNA damage. Cancer cells deficient in p53 tumor suppressor function reportedly develop a strong dependency on CHK1 for proper cell cycle progression and maintenance of genome integrity, sparking interest in developing kinase inhibitors. Pharmacological inhibition of CHK1 triggers B-Cell CLL/Lymphoma 2 (BCL2)-regulated cell death in malignant cells largely independently of p53, and has been suggested to kill p53-deficient cancer cells even more effectively.

Plasmid transfer is one important mechanism how antimicrobial resistance can spread between different species, contributing to the rise of multidrug resistant bacteria (MDRB) worldwide. Here were present whole genome sequencing (WGS) data of two MDRB isolates, an and a which were isolated from a single patient. Detailed analysis of long-read sequencing data identified an identical F2:A-:B- lncFII plasmid containing in both isolates, suggesting horizontal plasmid exchange between the two species.
