The idea of using mobile assistance robots for gait training in rehabilitation has been increasingly explored in recent years due to the associated benefits. This paper describes how the previous results of research and praxis on gait training with a mobile assistance robot in orthopedic rehabilitation can be transferred to ophthalmic-related orientation and mobility training for blind and visually impaired people. To this end, the specific requirements for such orientation and mobility training are presented from a therapeutic perspective.

Increased gastric pH following PPI therapy has an impact on the gut microbiome, intestinal inflammation, and possibly patient health. If similar changes are present after SGB2, these can be relevant for patient health and long-term outcomes after surgery.

A successful rehabilitation after surgery in hip endoprosthetics comprises self-training of the lessons taught by physiotherapists. While doing this, immediate feedback to the patient about deviations from physiological gait patterns during training is important. Such immediate feedback also concerns the correct usage of forearm crutches in three-point gait.

Previous research has determined that alcohol use is frequently associated with sexual aggression perpetration. However, little research has examined the differences between alcohol-involved and nonalcohol-involved assaults among men who are repeat perpetrators of sexual aggression. In the gut, these silicates could act as adsorbents, ion-exchangers, catalysts, detergents or anti-diarrheic agents. Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled trial to observe effects of probiotic supplementation on markers of intestinal barrier, oxidation and inflammation, at rest and after intense exercise. 23 trained men received multi-species probiotics (1010 CFU/day, Ecologic®Performance or OMNi-BiOTiC®POWER, n = 11) or placebo (n = 12) for 14 weeks and performed an intense cycle ergometry over 90 minutes at baseline and after 14 weeks.
The Shewanella oneidensis outer membrane β-barrel protein MtrB is part of a membrane-spanning protein complex (MtrABC) which is necessary for dissimilatory iron reduction. Quantitative PCR, heterologous gene expression, and mutant studies indicated that MtrA is required for periplasmic stability of MtrB. DegP depletion compensated for this MtrA dependence.

Team-based primary care offers the potential to dramatically improve the quality and efficiency of care, but its broader adoption is hindered by an education system that trains health professions in silos. Collaborative models that educate multiple practitioners together are needed to create a new generation of health professionals able to work in efficiently functioning teams. Changes in professional cultures, organizational structures, clinical partnerships, admissions, accreditation, and funding models will be required to support the expansion of collaborative education effectively.

Background/aim: Increased pigmentation and thickening of the epidermis are the most important photoprotective skin reactions induced by ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The present study was designed to find out what changes are induced by regular use of commercial sunbeds twice weekly over a period of 6 weeks.
Methods: The parameters analysed were skin pigmentation measured by chromametry, minimal erythema dose (MED) as a parameter of light sensitivity, epidermal thickening as determined by histology, induction of keratinocyte apoptosis as determined by TUNEL staining and antioxidant metabolism as measured by changes of cis- and trans-urocanic acid (UCA) content of the skin.
A terminal illness represents a spiritual crisis for many, but not all, patients. As the general practitioner confronts the illness with the patient a relationship develops which can itself be therapeutic. I believe that general practitioners can become attuned to the spiritual needs of their patients by having a commitment to the patient and focusing on the illness rather than the disease.
