Aim: The dynamic hip screw (DHS) often shows an impared outcome and a high incidence of therapeutic failure in patients with osteoporotic pertrochanteric femur fractures. Tissue engineering of articular cartilage remains an ongoing challenge. The authors describe a woman who had no signs and denied any history of trauma with an odd-looking, whitish, worm-like IOFB eventually identified by pathologic analysis as a cilium.
Case Report: A 58-year-old lady complaining of floaters with mild loss of vision and redness presented to our institution.
Objective: The authors investigated the relationship between pulmonary artery and transpulmonary aortic thermodilution cardiac output measurements under conditions of increasing cardiac output (CO).
Design: Animal study with repeated simultaneous measurements comparing 2 cardiac output measurement techniques.
Setting: Experimental animal facility of a university hospital.
The evolution of metabolic pathways is discussed with reference to the biosynthesis of a number of vitamins and cofactors. Retrograde and patchwork models are highlighted and their relevance to our knowledge of pathway processes and enzymes is examined. Pathway complexity is explained in terms of the acquisition of broad specificity enzymes.

Materials And Methods: Multiphoton microscopy/tomography on rabbits based on intense 90 MHz femtosecond Ti: sapphire laser was realized at intensities of MW-GW/cm(2), whereas the surgical procedures were performed with the same system at a higher light intensity on the order of TW/cm(2).

The intratissue surgical effect was induced by multiphoton absorption at a wavelength of 800 nm and was ascertained by histological examination. To clarify the actual influence of the type of harness on the pattern and severity of injury, accidents involving a major fall in a climbing harness were analyzed retrospectively.
Methods: Individuals with a height of fall equal to or exceeding 5 m were identified through a search of accident and emergency records for the period from 2000 to 2004.
In avalanche accidents, the significance of major trauma as a cause of morbidity and mortality is controversial. The aim of this retrospective study is to determine the severity and pattern of injury in avalanche victims admitted to the University Hospital of Innsbruck between 1996 and 2005. A total of 49 significant injuries were found in 105 avalanche victims; the most frequent were of the extremities (n = 20), the chest (n = 18), and the spine (n = 7).
