Objective: The objectives are to develop inhalation dosimetry models of the flavoring agents diacetyl, 2, 3-pentanedione, and acetoin to predict uptake throughout the rat and human respiratory tracts and use the results with histopathology data from 2-week, nose-only inhalation exposures in Sprague-Dawley rats to assess relationships between predicted dose and responses.
Methods: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models of the nasal passages were used to simulate inspiratory airflow and vapor uptake and mechanistic models of the lung airways were used to simulate vapor uptake during a breathing cycle.
Results: Diacetyl and 2, 3-pentanedione demonstrated similar uptake and wall mass flux patterns throughout the respiratory tract.

One application in the medical treatment at very small flow rates is the usage of an Insulin pump that delivers doses of insulin at constant cycle times for a specific basal rate as quasi-continuous insulin delivery, which is an important cornerstone in diabetes management. The calibration of these basal rates are performed by either gravimetric or optical methods, which have been developed within the European Metrology Program for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) Joint Research Project (JRP) 18HLT08 Metrology for drug delivery II (MeDDII). These measurement techniques are described in this paper, and an improved approach of the analytical procedure given in the standard IEC 60601-2-24:2012 for determining the discrete doses and the corresponding basal rates is discussed in detail.

Physicochemical property values may change significantly with temperature, particularly in the oral cavity and upper airways of the lung, where the puff undergoes adjustments from high temperatures in the tobacco product to reach body temperature. The assumption of fixed property values may introduce uncertainties in the predicted doses in these and other airways of the lung.

Aim Of The Study: To analyze the changes that SARS-CoV-2 has caused regarding the harvesting of corneal donor tissue and eye bank activities in Germany.
Methods: A questionnaire was provided to 26 eye banks in Germany, consisting of questions about adaptations made in the screening of potential donors and the harvesting of corneal tissue following the pandemic spread of SARS-CoV-2.
Objective: Increasingly, cornea banks are recovering donor tissue from pseudophakic donors. Little is known about their suitability for Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) surgery in terms of endothelial cell density (ECD) and preparation failure.

Methods And Analysis: 10-100 colony forming units of and were inoculated in 9mL of cornea organ culture medium. In group A, the medium was withdrawn with RESEP and treated for 20 min at room temperature, and then inoculated in BACTEC Plus Aerobic/F/Anaerobic/F blood culture bottles.
Purpose: To investigate functional and anatomical results up to 12 months after Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) for Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy (FED) versus bullous keratopathy (BK) in consideration of morphologic characteristics on host's endothelium-Descemet's membranes (EDM).
Methods: In a prospective consecutive case series, 119 eyes underwent a primary DMEK for FED or BK. Intraoperatively obtained EDM were investigated immunohistologically.
The performance of pressurized metered dose inhalers (MDIs) is affected by formulation and device variables that impact delivered dose, aerodynamic particle size distribution, and consequently lung deposition and therapeutic effect. Specific formulation variables of relevance to two commercially available products-Proventil® HFA [albuterol sulfate (AS) suspension] and Qvar® [beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) solution]-were evaluated to determine their influence on key performance attributes measured experimentally with in vitro cascade impaction studies. Introduction: The traceability of tissue and cells transplants is important to ensure a high level of safety for the recipients. With the final introduction of the Single European Code (SEC) in April 2017 in the EU a consistent system among all member states became mandatory.
Methods: The regulations for the SEC on EU and national level were evaluated.
Within the framework of obtaining a valid authorization for tissue preparation of cryopreserved human amniotic membranes at the Paul Ehrlich Institute, pursuant to § 21a paragraph 1 of the German Medicines Act (AMG), parts of the existing good practice procedures for acquisition of cryopreserved human amniotic membranes from donor placentas were reviewed and supplemented by new knowledge. The present good practice procedures were formulated in cooperation with members of the section for tissue transplantation and biotechnology of the German Ophthalmological Society. The current revised version is presented in this article.
