Stability of a surrogate African swine fever-like algal virus in corn- and soybean-based feed ingredients during extended storage and digestion processes.

Prevention of transmission of African swine fever virus (ASFV) through contaminated feed ingredients and complete feed is an important component of biosecurity protocols for global feed supply chains. Use of extended storage times for feed ingredients has become a popular and emerging mitigation strategy that may allow partial inactivation of ASFV before manufacturing swine feeds. However, the effectiveness of this strategy is unclear because limited studies have been conducted using diverse methodologies and insufficiently sensitive measures of virus viability of only a few types of feed matrices.

How vaccination affects the degree of IAV genetic diversity that can be transmitted and expanded in pigs is unknown. To evaluate the effect of vaccination on the transmission of genetically distinct IAV variants and their diversity after transmission in pigs, we examined the whole genome of IAV recovered from the nasal cavities of pigs vaccinated with different influenza immunization regimens after being infected simultaneously by H1N1 and H3N2 IAVs using a seeder pig model.

Within the Department of Medicine (DOM) in a large tertiary academic health care facility in midwestern United States, we have developed an educational offering that incorporates an academic writing program (AWP) blending the approaches of a writing accountability work group, a writing workshop, and didactic writing courses. The purpose of this AWP was to assist healthcare professionals (HCP) with their manuscript writing skills to enhance academic productivity. Postoperative Sedation in General Care Wards: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: We hypothesized that deeper sedation in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) increases the risk of subsequent sedation in general care wards (ward sedation) and that patients with ward sedation have more postoperative adverse events than those without ward sedation.

Methods: We reviewed the health records of adult patients who underwent procedures with general anesthesia at Mayo Clinic from May 5, 2018, through December 31, 2020, and were discharged from the PACU to the general care ward. Patient groups were dichotomized as with ward sedation (Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale [RASS], ≤-2) and without ward sedation (RASS, ≥-1) within the first 24 hours after PACU discharge.
