Several researchers have made progress toward determining the cause of hemifacial spasm, tinnitus, and episodic vertigo. During the past 5 years, we have encountered a vascular loop in six of 36 patients who were undergoing retrolabyrinthine vestibular neurectomy for recurrent disequilibrium and vertigo. In five of these six patients, disequilibrium improved after neurectomy.

Acute renal failure was induced in rats by intramuscular injection of glycerol. Experiments consisted of three periods: a basal infusion period for all animals, an infusion period of atrial natriuretic factor (5 micrograms or 10 micrograms/250 g body weight) in experimental rats, control rats received isotonic glucose solution, and a post-period with isotonic saline infusion in all animals. According to the severity of acute renal failure three subgroups were formed: mild, moderate, and severe acute renal failure.

The systolic flow phenomena distal to 3 different bioprostheses (Hancock, Carpentier Edwards, Ionescu Shiley) and to a preparation of a fresh human aortic valve was investigated in vitro by means of ultramicroscope anemometry and pressure measurements. The following hemodynamic criteria were used to compare the function of these and the previously tested valves quantitatively (6): 1. Total pressure loss produced by the valve, 2.

In newborn infants of various ages, the influence of repeated administration of water and electrolytes on renal excretion of urine, sodium, potassium, free and bound hydrogen ions and on urine osmolarity was studied. In 14- and 21-day-old infants the repeated administration of water and electrolytes was followed by diminution of renal excretion of hydrogen ions and potassium, possibly caused by stimulation of hormonal regulation of ion exchange in the kidney. In animal studies performed with a larger water and electrolyte load, stimulation of renal excretion of sodium was caused by the pretreatment.

By means of a pilot study we tried to calculate the perinatal morbidity after continuous fetal monitoring. From 810 electronical and biochemical monitored high-risk babies in the period from 1971 to 1973 we checked and/or have investigated 685 risk-newborns. Thereby 87 (=12,7%) were premature newborns.

In connection with the observation of new quantitative electronic dates we undertook bradycardia résiduelle from Sureau a critical value in account. The investigations result from non-digital method. We didn't find statistical significant coherence between bradycardie résiduelle and Apgar-score past 1, 5, 10 and 60 minuts p.
