Purpose: Less than half of the patients with newly diagnosed metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergo comprehensive molecular testing. We designed an electronic medical record (EMR)-based "nudge intervention" to prompt plasma-based molecular testing at the time of initial medical oncology consultation.

The therapeutic landscape for patients with advanced malignancies has changed dramatically over the last twenty years. The growing number of targeted therapies and immunotherapeutic options available have improved response rates and survival for a subset of patients, however determining which patients will experience clinical benefit from these therapies in order to avoid potential toxicities and reduce healthcare costs remains a clinical challenge. Cell-free circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is shed by tumor cells into systemic circulation and is already an integral part of routine clinical practice for the non-invasive tumor genotyping in advanced non-small cell lung cancer as well as other malignancies.

Utilizing geochemical analysis, this study identifies the sources of European brass used in the casting of the renowned Benin Bronzes, produced by the Edo people of Nigeria. It is commonly believed that distinctive brass rings known as "manillas", used as currency in the European trade in West Africa, also served as a metal source for the making of the Bronzes. However, prior to the current study, no research had conclusively connected the Benin artworks and the European manillas.

Purpose: The uncommon EGFR exon 19 deletion (ex19del), L747_A750>P, demonstrates reduced sensitivity to osimertinib compared with the common ex19del, E746_A750del in preclinical models. The clinical efficacy of osimertinib in patients with non-small cell lung cancer harboring L747_A750>P and other uncommon ex19dels is not known.

Experimental Design: The AACR GENIE database was interrogated to characterize the frequency of individual ex19dels relative to other variants, and a multicenter retrospective cohort was used to compare clinical outcomes for patients with tumors harboring E746_A750del, L747_A750>P, and other uncommon ex19dels who received osimertinib in the first line (1L) or in second or later lines of therapy and were T790M+ (≥2L).

Background: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and intramuscular depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-IM) are independently associated with reduced bone mineral density (BMD). Most studies evaluating BMD in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected populations have focused on antiretroviral therapy (ART)-experienced patients. In this study, the association between HIV-1 and/or depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and BMD among untreated HIV-1-infected women in a resource-limited setting was assessed before long-term exposure to ART. The data were then compared with that of the 2005-2008 United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data for non-Hispanic White and Black women.

Despite the fact that molecular doping of semiconducting polymers has emerged as a valuable strategy for improving the performance of organic electronic devices, the fundamental dopant-polymer interactions are not fully understood. Here we use 2-D grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) to demonstrate that adding oxidizing small-molecule dopants, such as 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (FTCNQ) and FeCl, into the amorphous conjugated polymer, regiorandom poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (RRa-P3HT), improves polymer ordering and induces a change in domain orientation from isotropic to mostly edge-on. Doping thus causes RRa-P3HT to behave similarly to the more ordered regioregular P3HT.

We report that fluoroquinolone-resistant Escherichia coli are found in feces of 8.8% of healthy women, with most bacteria belonging to pandemic multidrug-resistant ST131-H30R or ST1193 clonal groups. Moreover, these highly uropathogenic clonal groups demonstrate an especially prolonged gut persistence and high rate of bacteriuria without documented urinary tract infection.

It is generally presumed that the vast majority of carriers created by chemical doping of semiconducting polymer films are coulombically trapped by the counteranion, with only a small fraction that are free and responsible for the increased conductivity essential for organic electronic applications. At higher doping levels, it is also possible for bipolarons to form, which are expected to be less conductive than single polarons. Unfortunately, there is no simple way to distinguish free polarons, trapped polarons and bipolarons using steady-state spectroscopy.

We describe the rapid and ongoing emergence across multiple US cities of a new multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli clone-sequence type (ST) 1193-resistant to fluoroquinolones (100%), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (55%), and tetracycline (53%). ST1193 is associated with younger adults (age <40 years) and currently comprises a quarter of fluoroquinolone-resistant clinical E. coli urine isolates.

The recently emerged fluoroquinolone-resistant Escherichia coli sequence type (ST) 131-H30R subclone (H30) is a leading cause of multidrug-resistant urinary tract infection (UTI) and bloodstream infection worldwide.

We report a case of accidental ingestion of model car fuel (Optifuel) resulting in an apparent elevation of serum creatinine of 274 µmol/L (3.1 mg/dL) as measured by the Jaffe (alkaline picrate) reaction, which resulted in an acute kidney injury (AKI) stage 3 alert being reported. Optifuel contains nitromethane, which has been reported to interfere in the Jaffe reaction causing falsely high creatinine measurements.
