Health inequities in dialysis care: A scoping review.

Main Problem: We aim to look at potential gaps in current dialysis literature on inequities and explore future research that could contribute to more equitable care.

Methods: Following guidelines from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), we conducted a scoping review of health inequities in dialysis. PubMed and Ovid Embase were searched in July 2022 for articles published between 2016 and 2022 that examined at least one of the following NIH defined health inequities: race/ethnicity, sex/gender, LGBTQ+ identity, underserved rural populations, education level, income, and occupation status.

The unique extract of a mixture of radix, radix and herba alleviates the typical symptoms of the common cold and shortens the duration of the disease. The risk-benefit ratio of a concentrated formulation of this herbal extract was investigated under everyday conditions. Randomized double-blind clinical studies of ularitide and other vasoactive substances in acute decompensated heart failure: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Aims: Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) has a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. No direct comparisons between ularitide-a synthetic natriuretic peptide being evaluated in ADHF-and other vasoactive substances are available. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine haemodynamic effect sizes from randomized double-blind trials in ADHF.

Intra-Seasonal Initiation of the SQ-Standardised Grass Allergy Immunotherapy Tablet Routinely Applied by Allergy Specialists and General Practitioners with Experience in Treatment of Allergy: A Non-Interventional Observational Study.

Introduction: Intra-seasonal start of treatment with the SQ grass sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) tablet (GRAZAX, ALK, Denmark) has been previously demonstrated to be well-tolerated. The objective of our study was to investigate the tolerability of intra-seasonal start of treatment comparing patients treated by allergists and general practitioners experienced in treatment of allergy (GPs).

Methods: In a non-interventional, open-label, observational study, data on intra-seasonal start with the SQ grass SLIT tablet were recorded in patients treated by allergists and GPs in Germany.

Revealing the Cell-Material Interface with Nanometer Resolution by Focused Ion Beam/Scanning Electron Microscopy.

The interface between cells and nonbiological surfaces regulates cell attachment, chronic tissue responses, and ultimately the success of medical implants or biosensors. Clinical and laboratory studies show that topological features of the surface profoundly influence cellular responses; for example, titanium surfaces with nano- and microtopographical structures enhance osteoblast attachment and host-implant integration as compared to a smooth surface. To understand how cells and tissues respond to different topographical features, it is of critical importance to directly visualize the cell-material interface at the relevant nanometer length scale.

[Wirksamkeit und Verträglichkeit eines homöopathischen Komplexmittels (Sinusitis Hevert SL) bei akuter, unkomplizierter Rhinosinusitis: Eine multizentrische, randomisierte, doppelblinde, placebokontrollierte Studie an erwachsenen Patienten].

Hintergrund: In der vorliegenden Studie wurden die Wirksamkeit und Verträglichkeit des homöopathischen Arzneimittels Sinusitis Hevert SL an Patienten mit akuter Rhinosinusitis untersucht. Methoden: In einer randomisierten, placebokontrollierten klinischen Studie wurden 314 Patienten mit bis zu 3 Tagen bestehenden Symptomen, leichtem bis moderatem Gesichtsschmerz und einem Major Rhinosinusitis Symptom Score (MRSS) ≥ 8 und ≤ 14 für 15 Tage (Tag 0 erster Arztbesuch plus 14 Tage Behandlung) eingeschlossen und mit Sinusitis Hevert SL oder Placebo behandelt. Den primären Endpunkt bildeten die Responderrate im MRSS (Reduktion ≥ 50%) bei der Abschlussvisite sowie die Rate der Remissionen (komplettes Abklingen aller 5 Hauptsymptome).

Objectives: To demonstrate non-inferiority of an herbal combination (horseradish root and nasturtium herb) to an antibiotic (co-trimoxazole) in acute uncomplicated cystitis.

Design: Randomized, prospective, double-blind, double-dummy, multicenter, phase III clinical study, using block randomization of 4 blocks (size 2).

Setting: Twenty-six centers in Germany, from May 2011 to June 2013.

The Influence of Supporting Ions on the Electrochemical Detection of Individual Silver Nanoparticles: Understanding the Shape and Frequency of Current Transients in Nano-impacts.

We report the influence of electrolyte composition and concentration on the stochastic amperometric detection of individual silver nanoparticles at microelectrode arrays and show that the sensor response at certain electrode potentials is dependent on both the conductivity of the electrolyte and the concentration of chloride ions. We further demonstrate that the chloride concentration in solution heavily influences the characteristic current spike shape of recorded nanoparticle impacts: While typically too short to be resolved in the measured current, the spike widths are significantly broadened at low chloride concentrations below 10 mm and range into the millisecond regime. The analysis of more than 25 000 spikes reveals that this effect can be explained by the diffusive mass transport of chloride ions to the nanoparticle, which limits the oxidation rate of individual silver nanoparticles to silver chloride at the chosen electrode potential.

MEAs and 3D nanoelectrodes: electrodeposition as tool for a precisely controlled nanofabrication.

Microelectrode arrays (MEAs) are gaining increasing importance for the investigation of signaling processes between electrogenic cells. However, efficient cell-chip coupling for robust and long-term electrophysiological recording and stimulation still remains a challenge. A possible approach for the improvement of the cell-electrode contact is the utilization of three-dimensional structures.

Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate safety and tolerability in patients treated by subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and concomitant SCIT or sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) products.

Methods: In a non-interventional, observational study in Germany treatment of patients with a primary SCIT and concomitant AIT (SCIT or SLIT) was documented during the first 4 months of treatment.

Background And Objective: Allergy immunotherapy (AIT) with the SQ(®) grass sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT)-tablet has been shown to be efficacious, well-tolerated and to improve disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in controlled clinical trials. The aim of our study was to investigate HRQoL in patients with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis routinely treated with the SLIT-tablet and taking symptomatic medication as needed compared with patients treated only with symptomatic medication.

Methods: In a non-interventional, open-label study, patients treated with the SLIT-tablet were observed for about 12 months compared with patients only symptomatically treated.

Influence of Self-Assembled Alkanethiol Monolayers on Stochastic Amperometric On-Chip Detection of Silver Nanoparticles.

We investigate the influence of self-assembled alkanethiol monolayers at the surface of platinum microelectrode arrays on the stochastic amperometric detection of citrate-stabilized silver nanoparticles in aqueous solutions. The measurements were performed using a microelectrode array featuring 64 individually addressable electrodes that are recorded in parallel with a sampling rate of 10 kHz for each channel. We show that both the functional end group and the total length of the alkanethiol influence the charge transfer.

Comparing Nalmefene and Naltrexone in Alcohol Dependence: Are there any Differences? Results from an Indirect Meta-Analysis.

Background: The mu-opioid antagonist naltrexone is one of the few approved pharmacotherapies for the treatment of alcohol dependence. Recently, the mu-opioid antagonist and partial kappa agonist nalmefene was approved by the European Medicines Agency for the reduction of alcohol consumption in adult patients with alcohol dependence. To date, no head-to-head studies have compared the efficacy and safety of naltrexone and nalmefene in reducing alcohol consumption.

Ultra-thin resin embedding method for scanning electron microscopy of individual cells on high and low aspect ratio 3D nanostructures.

The preparation of biological cells for either scanning or transmission electron microscopy requires a complex process of fixation, dehydration and drying. Critical point drying is commonly used for samples investigated with a scanning electron beam, whereas resin-infiltration is typically used for transmission electron microscopy. Critical point drying may cause cracks at the cellular surface and a sponge-like morphology of nondistinguishable intracellular compartments.

Efficacy, safety, and tolerability of intravesically administered 0.1% oxybutynin hydrochloride solution in adult patients with neurogenic bladder: A randomized, prospective, controlled multi-center trial.

Aims: To verify the efficacy, safety and tolerability of intravesical administration of 0.1% oxybutynin hydrochloride compared to its oral administration for treatment of neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in a randomized, prospective, controlled, open-label, multi-center trial in 35 adult patients.

Methods: NDO was confirmed within the previous 24 months by urodynamic studies (UDS).

Matrix elasticity guides differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) but it is unclear if these effects are only transient - while the cells reside on the substrate - or if they reflect persistent lineage commitment. In this study, MSCs were continuously culture-expanded in parallel either on tissue culture plastic (TCP) or on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) gels of different elasticity to compare impact on replicative senescence, in vitro differentiation, gene expression, and DNA methylation (DNAm) profiles. The maximal number of cumulative population doublings was not affected by matrix elasticity.

The purpose of this work was the investigation of a three-dimensional nanointerface, enabling simultaneous guidance and recording of electrogenic cells (HL-1) by utilizing nanostructures with a mushroom shape on MEAs.
