ALD of ZnO:Ti: Growth Mechanism and Application as an Efficient Transparent Conductive Oxide in Silicon Nanowire Solar Cells.

In the quest for the replacement of indium tin oxide (ITO), Ti-doped zinc oxide (TZO) films have been synthesized by atomic layer deposition (ALD) and applied as an n-type transparent conductive oxide (TCO). TZO thin films were obtained from titanium (IV) -propoxide (TTIP), diethyl zinc, and water by introducing TiO growth cycle in a ZnO matrix. Process parameters such as the order of precursor introduction, the cycle ratio, and the film thickness were optimized.

Blackout Versus Pass Out in Allegations of Alcohol-involved Sexual Assault: Why Knowing the Difference Matters.

It is common for not only laypersons but also courts, witnesses, attorneys, and even some experts involved in a criminal sexual assault investigation to confuse the terms "blackout" and "pass out" when referring to the memory, consciousness, and other behavioral ramifications of alcohol intoxication. A typical alcohol-involved sexual assault allegation often includes the partial or total absence of memory for events of the alleged incident. The etiology and behavioral presentations of the types of alcohol-induced memory deficiency evidenced are not all created equal and understanding the differences is crucial to understanding the reasonableness of the potential perceptions or misperceptions of an accused.

Investigation of the cytotoxic activity of two novel digitoxigenin analogues on H460 lung cancer cells.

Cardiac glycosides (CGs) are natural compounds traditionally used for the treatment of heart disorders, and recently new therapeutic possibilities were proposed. Their antitumor reports and clinical trials have notably enhanced, including those targeted for lung cancer, the most lethal type that lacks of new treatment agents, instigating the research of these molecules. The CGs studied here, named C10 {3β-[(N-(2-hydroxyethyl)aminoacetyl]amino-3-deoxydigitoxigenin} and C18 (3β-(aminoacetyl)amino-3-deoxydigitoxigenin), are semisynthetic derivatives prepared from digitoxigenin scaffold.

Functional connectivity correlates of infant and early childhood cognitive development.

Childhood is defined by the development of cognitive abilities as well as brain growth and function. While prior neuroimaging studies have investigated early development fragmentally, we studied the typical development of functional network connectivity continuously from infancy to childhood (average of 24 months) in 196 singleton term born children, as well as their emergence with age and visual, motor, and language abilities as assessed using the Mullen Scales of Early Learning. We demonstrate a cross-age shift to networks linked to higher-order cognitive processes, paralleling previous findings about developmental courses of functional connectivity networks.

[Primary palliative care provision by general practitioners: Development of strategies to improve structural, legal and financial framework conditions].

Introduction: General practitioners (GPs) make a major contribution to outpatient palliative care (AAPV). In 2013, new fee rates for AAPV were included in the uniform assessment standard, which strengthens the financial framework conditions for outpatient palliative care by GPs. The aim of the ALLPRAX project is to improve the framework conditions for AAPV.

Systematic identification of critically ill and dying patients in primary care using the German version of the Supportive and Palliative Care Indicators Tool (SPICT-DE).

The systematic identification of patients who are at risk of deteriorating and dying is the prerequisite for the provision of palliative care (PC). This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and practicability of the German version of the Supportive and Palliative Care Indicators Tool (SPICT-DE) for the systematic identification of these patients in general practice. In the beginning of 2017, twelve general practitioners (GPs; female n=6) were invited to take part in the study.

A wide range of evidence indicates that olfactory perception is strongly involved in food intake. However, the polysynaptic circuitry linking the brain areas involved in feeding behavior to the olfactory regions is not well known. The aim of this article was to examine such circuits.

Photoreceptor disc membranes are formed through an Arp2/3-dependent lamellipodium-like mechanism.

The light-sensitive outer segment of the vertebrate photoreceptor is a highly modified primary cilium filled with disc-shaped membranes that provide a vast surface for efficient photon capture. The formation of each disc is initiated by a ciliary membrane evagination driven by an unknown molecular mechanism reportedly requiring actin polymerization. Since a distinct F-actin network resides precisely at the site of disc morphogenesis, we employed a unique proteomic approach to identify components of this network potentially driving disc morphogenesis.

Caring for frail older patients in the last phase of life : Challenges for general practitioners in the integration of geriatric and palliative care.

Background: The best possible care for frail older patients at the end of life can require the integration of geriatric and palliative approaches, possibly with different accentuations at different times. General practitioners (GP) are particularly important in this context: they provide patients with low-threshold primary care close to their homes and provide both general palliative care and geriatric services.

Objective: What are the challenges for GPs in caring for frail older patients at the end of their lives?

Material And Methods: A secondary data analysis of 52 qualitative interviews was carried out, which were serially obtained at 4 points in time over a period of 18 months with 14 family doctors.

miR-488-5p and its role in melanoma.

Due to their ability to regulate dozens to hundreds of target genes simultaneously and, therefore, influence several oncogenic pathways at the same time, microRNAs are a fascinating research object in melanoma. MicroRNAs have been identified as regulators of tumor proliferation, invasion and metastasis in melanoma. More precisely, it has been published that dysregulation of miR-488 contibutes to the progression of several cancer entities.

A novel conditional NPM-ALK-driven model of CD30+ T-cell lymphoma mediated by a translational stop cassette.

Targeted expression of transgenes is essential for the accurate representation of human disease in in vivo models. Current approaches to generate conditional transgenic mouse models are cumbersome and not amenable to high-throughput analysis since they require de novo generation and characterization of genetically modified mice. Here we describe a new system for lineage-restricted expression of transgenes based on a retroviral vector incorporating a translational stop cassette flanked by loxP recombination sites.

"It Made Me the Person I Am Today…": Survivors of Childhood, Adolescent, and Young Adult Cancer Reflect on Their Experiences.

As survival rates of childhood, adolescent, and young adult (YA) cancers improve, there is a growing population of YA cancer survivors who can provide insight into the lived experience of cancer. The goal of this study was to improve understanding of the cancer experience through interviews with YA-aged survivors. A convenience sample of survivors (age ≥18; remission ≥5 years) was recruited from an urban pediatric hospital.

Dynamics of cluster-forming hub-filament systems: The case of the high-mass star-forming complex Monoceros R2.

Context: High-mass stars and star clusters commonly form within hub-filament systems. Monoceros R2 (hereafter Mon R2), at a distance of 830 pc, harbors one of the closest such systems, making it an excellent target for case studies.

Aims: We investigate the morphology, stability and dynamical properties of the Mon R2 hub-filament system.

Long-Term Courses of Sepsis Survivors: Effects of a Primary Care Management Intervention.

Background: Sepsis survivors face mental and physical sequelae even years after discharge from the intensive care unit. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term courses of sepsis survivors and the effects of a primary care management intervention in sepsis aftercare.

Methods: This study presents a 24-month follow-up of a randomized controlled trial that recruited 291 patients who survived sepsis (including septic shock) from nine German intensive care units.

The nephrology eHealth-system of the metropolitan region of Hannover for digitalization of care, establishment of decision support systems and analysis of health care quality.

Background: Even though a high demand for sector spanning communication exists, so far no eHealth platform for nephrology is established within Germany. This leads to insufficient communication between medical providers and therefore suboptimal nephrologic care. In addition, Clinical Decision Support Systems have not been used in Nephrology until now.

Inhibition of peptidyl-prolyl isomerase (PIN1) and BRAF signaling to target melanoma.

PIN1 is a phosphorylation-dependent peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase, overexpressed in many cancers, including melanoma. Our immunohistochemistry data of melanoma patient tissue underline the up-regulation of PIN1 in metastases. Here, we demonstrate important functions of PIN1 and its selective and cell permeable inhibitor 37 for the treatment of melanoma.

Adult Child-Parent Dyadic Interactions at the End of Life: A Scoping Review.

Background: Being terminally ill affects not only the life of patients but also that of their loved ones. Dyads of adult children and their parents at the end of life may face specific challenges with regard to their relationship and interactions that need to be further examined.

Aim: The aim was to identify, describe and summarise available evidence on adult child-parent interaction and psychosocial support needs at the end of life.

Biological activities of marine invertebrates extracts from the northeast brazilian coast.

This paper reports the in vitro antiproliferative effects, antiprotozoal, anti-herpes and antimicrobial activities of 32 organic extracts of 14 marine sponges and 14 corals collected in northeast Brazilian coast. The ethanolic extracts of the sponges Amphimedon compressa and Tedania ignis, and the acetone extract of Dysidea sp. showed relevant results concerning the antiproliferative effects against A549, HCT-8, and PC-3 cell lines by sulforhodamine B assay, but also low specificity.

Synthesis of the Anionic Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin:Poly(decamethylenephosphate) Polyrotaxane and Evaluation of its Cholesterol Efflux Potential in Niemann-Pick C1 Cells.

Niemann-Pick type C disease (NPC) is a lysosomal storage disease that is characterized by a progressive accumulation of unesterified cholesterol in the lysosomes leading to organ damage from cell dysfunction. Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) is an attractive drug candidate for treating NPC, as it diminishes cholesterol accumulation in NPC cells. Systemic HP-β-CD treatment, however, is limited by rapid renal clearance.
