Teacher stress in social interactions in the light of polyvagal theory. An ambulatory assessment approach to teachers' heart rate and heart rate variability.

Background: Teaching is a genuinely social and highly demanding task. Drawing on Porges' phylogenetic polyvagal theory with three evolved systems and three associated behavioral responses (social engagement, mobilization, and immobilization), we investigated teachers' heart rate and heart rate variability in social interactions using ambulatory assessments.

Methods: We continuously measured heart rate and heart rate variability of 42 apparently healthy teachers on a work and leisure day with ambulatory electrocardiogram.

A Novel MYH14 Variant Presenting as a New Phenotype of MYH14-Associated Neuromuscular Disorders-Clinicohistologic Findings and Review of the Literature.

Background: Pathogenic variants in the nonmuscle myosin, MYH14, have been associated with several pathologic conditions including a complex phenotype with peripheral neuropathy, myopathy, hoarseness, and hearing loss. Since its first description in a large Korean kindred, this rare neuromuscular disorder has further been characterized in 1 American and 1 Canadian pedigree.

Case Presentation: Here, we describe a German patient with atypical MYH14-related neuromuscular disorder.

Measurable residual disease monitoring in AML with FLT3-ITD treated with intensive chemotherapy plus midostaurin.

Measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with an FLT3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITDpos) has been hampered by the broad heterogeneity of ITD mutations. Using our recently developed FLT3-ITD paired-end next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based MRD assay (limit of detection 10-4 to 10-5), we evaluated the prognostic impact of MRD at different time points in 157 patients with FLT3-ITDpos AML who were enrolled in the German-Austrian Acute Myeloid Leukemia Study Group 16-10 trial and who were treated with a combination of intensive chemotherapy and midostaurin, followed by midostaurin maintenance. Purpose: To investigate the associations between physical activity (PA) intensities, sedentary behavior (SB), and blood pressure (BP) in adolescents, according to sex.

Method: This cross-sectional study involved 95 male and female adolescents aged 15-18 years. Accelerometry was used to measure time spent in light-intensity PA (LPA), moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA), and vigorous PA, and SB.

Background: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are a global health challenge. The complex etiology of NCDs involves genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, including dietary habits. Chronic latent metabolic acidosis has been associated with an increased risk of NCDs.

Nonlinear Effects on Charge Fractionalization in Critical Chains.

We investigate the generic transport in a one-dimensional strongly correlated fermionic chain beyond linear response. Starting from a Gaussian wave packet with positive momentum on top of the ground state, we find that the numerical time evolution splits the signal into at least three distinct fractional charges moving with different velocities. A fractional left-moving charge is expected from conventional Luttinger liquid theory, but for the prediction of the two separate right-moving packets the nonlinearity of the dispersion must also be taken into account.

Aggressive student behavior is considered one of the main risk factors for teacher stress. The present study investigated teachers' physiological and behavioral reactions when facing aggressive student behavior and examined which resources favor adaptive teacher reactions. The sample included 42 teachers.

Effortless self-control.

Self-control is essential for outcomes in several life domains but is often seen as effortful. We discuss recent research indicating the possibility of effortless self-control. First, we discuss how high levels of self-control are associated with quicker self-control conflict identification and resolution.

The "memory-experience gap" for affect does not reflect a general memory bias to overestimate past affect.

Retrospective self-reports are widely used to measure affect and well-being. But researchers have long assumed that people overestimate affective experiences in retrospect and that retrospective self-reports are thus biased. This is because of the memory-experience gap, a phenomenon in which retrospective ratings for a longer timeframe are higher than the average of repeated ratings for shorter timeframes.

An integrative framework of conflict and control.

People regularly encounter various types of conflict. Here, we ask if, and, if so, how, different types of conflict, from lab-based Stroop conflicts to everyday-life self-control or moral conflicts, are related to one other. We present a framework that assumes that action-goal representations are hierarchically organized, ranging from concrete actions to abstract goals.

Interactional competencies in medical student admission- what makes a "good medical doctor"?

Doctors' interactional competencies play a crucial role in patient satisfaction, well-being, and compliance. Accordingly, it is in medical schools' interest to select candidates with strong interactional abilities. While Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) provide a useful context to assess such abilities, the evaluation of candidate performance during MMIs is not always based on a solid theoretical framework.

Public transport use and mortality among older adults in England: A cohort study.

Background: Most evidence on transport use and mortality has focused on the commute to work. This study aims to fill a gap by assessing relationships between public transport use and mortality among older adults.

Methods: Data come from a cohort of 10,186 individuals aged 50 or older who participated in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA), with survey data linked to mortality records over 16 years (2002-2018).

Reactive collisions between electrons and BeH above dissociation threshold.

Our previous studies of dissociative recombination and vibrational excitation/de-excitation of the BeH ion, based on the multichannel quantum defect theory, are extended to collision energies above the dissociation threshold, taking into account the vibrational continua of the BeH ion and, consequently, its dissociative excitation. We have also significantly increased the number of dissociative states of Π, Σ and Δ symmetry included in our cross section calculations, generating the most excited ones by using appropriate scaling laws. Our results are suitable for modeling the kinetics of BeH in edge fusion plasmas for collision energies up to 12 eV.

Low serum 25(OH)D levels (< 30 nmol/L) have been associated with increased depressive symptom scores over time, and it is believed that functionality may play a mediating role in the relationship between 25(OH)D and depressive symptoms. To comprehend the association between these factors could have significant implications for public health policy. The aim of this study was to verify the association between simultaneous vitamin D insufficiency and depressive symptoms, and functional disability in community-dwelling older adults.

Background: The prevalence of diabetes and coexisting multimorbidity rises worldwide. Treatment of this patient group can be complex. Providing an evidence-based, coherent, and patient-centred treatment of patients with multimorbidity poses a challenge in healthcare systems, which are typically designed to deliver disease-specific care.

Dynamic contact networks of residents of an urban jail in the era of SARS-CoV-2.

Background: In custodial settings such as jails and prisons, infectious disease transmission is heightened by factors such as overcrowding and limited healthcare access. Specific features of social contact networks within these settings have not been sufficiently characterized, especially in the context of a large-scale respiratory infectious disease outbreak. The study aims to quantify contact network dynamics within the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia.

The RAGE Axis: A Relevant Inflammatory Hub in Human Diseases.

In 1992, a transcendental report suggested that the receptor of advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) functions as a cell surface receptor for a wide and diverse group of compounds, commonly referred to as advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), resulting from the non-enzymatic glycation of lipids and proteins in response to hyperglycemia. The interaction of these compounds with RAGE represents an essential element in triggering the cellular response to proteins or lipids that become glycated. Although initially demonstrated for diabetes complications, a growing body of evidence clearly supports RAGE's role in human diseases.

Hypereosinophilic syndrome: a rare cause of ST-elevation myocardial infarction and thrombus formation on the aortic valve.

We present a case of a man in his 30s presenting with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and eosinophilia. The patient underwent thrombus aspiration and initially echocardiographic evaluation was normal. The patient was discharged after 2 days, but was hospitalised again after 6 days.

Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus restores spatial reversal learning in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Spatial learning and navigation are supported by distinct memory systems in the human brain such as the hippocampus-based navigational system and the striatum-cortex-based system involved in motor sequence, habit and reversal learning. Here, we studied the role of subthalamic circuits in hippocampus-associated spatial memory and striatal-associated spatial reversal learning formation in patients with Parkinson's disease, who underwent a deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus. Deep brain stimulation patients (Parkinson's disease-subthalamic nucleus: = 26) and healthy subjects ( = 15) were tested in a novel experimental spatial memory task based on the Morris water maze that assesses both hippocampal place memory as well as spatial reversal learning.

Emerging and multifaceted potential contributions of polyphenols in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is recognized as a serious public health concern with a considerable impact on human life, long-term health expenditures, and substantial health losses. In this context, the use of dietary polyphenols to prevent and manage T2DM is widely documented. These dietary compounds exert their beneficial effects through several actions, including the protection of pancreatic islet β-cell, the antioxidant capacities of these molecules, their effects on insulin secretion and actions, the regulation of intestinal microbiota, and their contribution to ameliorate diabetic complications, particularly those of vascular origin.

Quantitative whole-body muscle MRI in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies including polymyositis with mitochondrial pathology: indications for a disease spectrum.

Objective: Inflammatory myopathies (IIM) include dermatomyositis (DM), sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM), immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM), and overlap myositis (OLM)/antisynthetase syndrome (ASyS). There is also a rare variant termed polymyositis with mitochondrial pathology (PM-Mito), which is considered a sIBM precursor. There is no information regarding muscle MRI for this rare entity.
