Background: To assess the dose-sparing capabilities of a yaw-limited volumetric modulated arc therapy (YL_VMAT) beam setup for adjacent organs at risk (OAR) in comparison with 3D-conventional radiation therapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and conventional VMAT for radiation therapy in left-sided breast cancer patients.
Methods: In total, 80 treatment plans for 20 patients, of which 10 patients underwent CT-scans in deep inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) and 10 patients in free-breathing (FB) technique. Besides generally tangential-weighted static and IMRT beams, VMAT treatment plans with approximately 270° arc length have been compared and analyzed to a multi-field, yaw-adapted, unconventional partial VMAT technique retrospectively.
Purpose: Cumulative cisplatin doses of ≥ 200 mg/m improve survival in adults with head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) undergoing chemoradiation, but many older adults with HNSCC cannot receive this prognostically relevant dose due to toxicities. This study aims to develop predictive models to assess the likelihood of older adults with HNSCC receiving ≥ 200 mg/m cisplatin during chemoradiation.
Methods: 366 patients from the SENIOR database, an international cohort of adults ≥ 65 years with HNSCC, received definitive chemoradiation with single-agent cisplatin and were analyzed.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University Medical Center Mainz, on a cohort of 50 patients with unilateral SCC-CUP of the head and neck region treated between 2005 and 2019. 30 patients received bilateral and 20 received unilateral cervical radiotherapy.
Purpose: The number of older adults with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is increasing, and treatment of these patients is challenging. Although cisplatin-based chemotherapy concomitantly with radiation therapy is considered the standard regimen for patients with locoregionally advanced HNSCC, there is substantial real-world heterogeneity regarding concomitant chemotherapy in older patients with HNSCC.

In this paper we introduce method and properties of the STATT-SCAR study (Second Tumor After Tumor Therapy, Second Cancer After Radiotherapy), which is a joint nested matched case-control study to evaluate the impact of chemotherapy (STATT) as well as radiotherapy (SCAR) on the risk of developing a SPN.
Methods: Based on the cohort of the German childhood cancer registry (GCCR), we selected patients diagnosed with a first neoplasm before age 15 or younger between 1980 and 2014.

Understanding coordinated T-cell-behavior and deciphering mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance mediated by tumor stem cells will advance risk stratification of oropharyngeal cancer (OPSCC) patients treated with primary chemoradiotherapy (RCTx).
Methods: To determine the role of CD8 T cells (CTL) and tumor stem cells for response to RCTx, we employed multiplex immunofluorescence stains on pre-treatment biopsy specimens from 86 advanced OPSCC patients and correlated these quantitative data with clinical parameters.
Introduction: Long non-coding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) are involved in the cellular damage response following exposure to ionizing radiation as applied in radiotherapy. However, the role of lncRNAs in radiation response concerning intrinsic susceptibility to late effects of radiation exposure has not been examined in general or in long-term survivors of childhood cancer with and without potentially radiotherapy-related second primary cancers, in particular.
Methods: Primary skin fibroblasts (n=52 each) of long-term childhood cancer survivors with a first primary cancer only (N1), at least one second primary neoplasm (N2+), as well as tumor-free controls (N0) from the KiKme case-control study were matched by sex, age, and additionally by year of diagnosis and entity of the first primary cancer.
Background And Purpose: To evaluate the tolerability and outcomes of chemoradiation in elderly patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
Materials And Methods: This multi-center retrospective analysis included 161 patients with SCC of the esophagus with a median age of 73 years (range 65-89 years) treated with definitive or neoadjuvant (chemo)radiotherapy between 2010 and 2019 at 3 large comprehensive cancer centers in Germany. Locoregional control (LRC), progression-free survival (PFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), overall survival (OS), and treatment-associated toxicities were analyzed, and parameters determining patient outcomes and treatment tolerance were assessed.
