A neonate with a facial congenital pressure injury: a case report.

This is the first case report of a facial congenital pressure injury in a full-term neonate, due to pressure on the neonate's head between a large leiomyoma and the mother's pelvic bone.

The anterior LICAP flap: a design option for oncoplastic breast reconstruction.

The purpose was to describe the operation technique of an anterior lateral intercostal artery perforator (LICAP) flap and analyse outcomes and complications. An anterior LICAP flap is a good and safe alternative for direct oncoplastic breast reconstruction. It is a reliable flap that provides sufficient volume and good esthetic outcomes.

BREAST trial study protocol: evaluation of a non-invasive technique for breast reconstruction in a multicentre, randomised controlled trial.

Introduction: Pioneers have shown that it is possible to reconstruct a full breast using just autologous fat harvested by liposuction or autologous fat transfer (AFT). This study describes the first multicentre randomised study protocol to thoroughly investigate the effectiveness of AFT to reconstruct full breasts following mastectomy procedures (primarily and delayed).

Methods And Analysis: This study is designed as a multicentre, randomised controlled clinical superiority trial with a 1:1 allocation ratio.

Postoncological lacrimal duct reconstruction: A practical classification system for reconstructive planning and short-term results of a case series.

Background: Surgical resection of skin tumors in the medial canthal area may damage the lacrimal duct and can result in chronic epiphora. Postoncologic reconstruction of the lacrimal duct has not been studied extensively. The current study discusses the anatomical and functional features of the lacrimal duct.

Photohardening of polymorphic light eruption patients decreases baseline epidermal Langerhans cell density while increasing mast cell numbers in the papillary dermis.

The pathogenesis of polymorphic light eruption (PLE) has been linked to a lack of UV-induced immune suppression. To determine the role of Langerhans cells (LC), mast cells and regulatory T cells, biopsies from PLE patients were taken from exposed sites in spring before and after photohardening with 311 nm or PUVA as well as again in summer. Skin sections were assessed for the presence of Langerin/CD1a+ LC and CD3+, CD4+, CD25+ or FoxP3+ T cells and mast cells.

Infrequent p53 gene mutation but UV gradient-like p53 protein positivity in keloids.

Keloids are characterized by extreme fibroblastic overgrowth of unknown pathogenesis after skin injury. Previous studies, mostly in non-Caucasian populations, suggest that p53 mutations may be involved. To substantiate this, we performed DNA sequence analysis of exons 4-8 of the p53 gene and immunohistochemical staining of p53 protein in archived keloidal tissue samples from 23 Caucasian patients.

8-methoxypsoralen plus ultraviolet A therapy acts via inhibition of the IL-23/Th17 axis and induction of Foxp3+ regulatory T cells involving CTLA4 signaling in a psoriasis-like skin disorder.

To elucidate the molecular action of 8-methoxypsoralen plus UVA (PUVA), a standard dermatological therapy, we used K5.hTGF-beta1 transgenic mice exhibiting a skin phenotype and cytokine abnormalities with strong similarities to human psoriasis. We observed that impaired function of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) and increased cytokine levels of the IL-23/Th17 pathway were responsible for the psoriatic phenotype in this mouse model.

Profiles of chemokine receptors in melanocytic lesions: de novo expression of CXCR6 in melanoma.

Selective expression of certain chemokine receptors by melanoma cells and the presence of their ligands in tissues might govern organ site-specific metastasis. Because the expression profile of chemokine receptors in tissues of melanocytic origin is unknown, we performed a comprehensive study on melanocytic tissue samples investigating the expression of 18 chemokine receptors at the mRNA level by real-time polymerase chain reaction, using a semiquantitative approach, and of 3 chemokine receptors (CXCR6, CCR9, and XCR1) at the protein level. We report on the de novo expression of CXCR6 in primary melanomas and melanoma metastases, but absence in melanoma cell lines and congenital nevi.

No evidence for c-erbB-2 overexpression in cutaneous melanoma.

Background: Recent studies have demonstrated the expression of the c-erbB-2 (HER-2/neu) oncoprotein in several malignant tumors and have related its overexpression with poor prognosis. Because cutaneous melanoma is a malignant tumor associated with poor prognosis, we investigated the expression of c-erbB-2 protein in cutaneous melanoma and in melanoma metastatic to the skin.

Materials And Methods: The expression of c-erbB-2 protein in 20 primary cutaneous melanomas and in 10 melanomas metastatic to the skin was investigated using a semi-quantitative immunohistochemical assay.

[Value of inguinal lymph node excision in anorectal melanoma].

The anorectal melanoma is a tumor with an unfavorable prognosis. The surgical removal is the therapy of choice. In the literature the different surgical centers suggest either local excision of the tumor or a more radical surgical procedure, the abdominoperineal resection either with or without inguinal and parailiacal lymph node dissection.

[Dynamic force measurement in implantation of total endoprostheses of the hip joint].

The forces within the femoral shaft have been studied in preparation for the total hip replacement. The experimental device consisted of a personal computer connected with a digital enhanced measurement system which converted the data, that was received from the strain gauges, mounted on the femur. The bitochanter hip replacement designed by Ecke was used as an example of a press fit endoprosthesis which is anchored cementless.
