Since 1987 scleroplastic operations have been performed at the Clinic of Ophthalmology in Magdeburg in patients suffering from progressive high-grade myopia. Lyophilized dura transplants are used for these operations. The patients are up to 30 years of age and all were reexamined 1 year after the operation.

A new, doubly guided cornea suction trephine system is presented. By means of a suction rim placed on the limbus corneal and a suction disc in the centre of the cornea the vault of the cornea is preserved throughout the trephination procedure. Cutting is performed by a motor trephine, which rotates between the inner and the outer suction.

This report deals with light and electron microscopic findings in 47 corneal disks obtained in the course of keratoplasties performed for bullous keratopathy. Previous surgery had included intracapsular cataract extraction in 12 cases, intracapsular cataract extraction with implantation of iris-supported artificial lenses in 8, and keratoplasty for treatment of various conditions in 27 cases. The interval between the first operation and the keratoplasty was seven years on average in the first group and three years in the two other groups.

For the first time the authors report about 29 surgical operations on the trabeculum corneoscleral carried out without operation-microscope in Central Africa. Four trabeculotomies of glaucoma chromium simplex were operated with a rate of success of only 50%, and 11 trabeculotomies of congenital glaucoma were operated with carried on with a pair of self-made trabeculotoms; the seven following operations with the trabeculutoms by Sourdille and Paufique. Because only magnifying spectacles were available for the operations besides good lighting and simple instruments, a method of diaphanoscopy was developed, which facilitated the search of the canal of Schlemm.
