Background: Ulcerative colitis patients who undergo ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) without mucosectomy may develop inflammation of the rectal cuff (cuffitis). Treatment of cuffitis typically includes mesalamine suppositories or corticosteroids, but refractory cuffitis may necessitate advanced therapies or procedural interventions. This review aims to summarize the existing literature regarding treatments options for cuffitis.

Comparisons of Risk Scores for Infective Endocarditis Surgery: A Meta-Analysis.

While multiple scoring systems exist to predict mortality in cardiac surgery, their utility in infective endocarditis (IE) remains uncertain, prompting this study to compare their prognostic accuracy. We conducted a comprehensive review using Ovid Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Data were pooled using Open-Meta[Analyst] software, and calibration analysis was performed with Review Manager 5.

Training and validating a treatment recommender with partial verification evidence.

Background: Current clinical decision support systems (DSS) are trained and validated on observational data from the clinic in which the DSS is going to be applied. This is problematic for treatments that have already been validated in a randomized clinical trial (RCT), but have not yet been introduced in any clinic. In this work, we report on a method for training and validating the DSS core before introduction to a clinic, using the RCT data themselves.

Inter-Digit Low Level Force Coordination in a Complex Isometric Pinch Tracking Task.

This study examined whether target pursuit tracking by a performer-controlled computer cursor around a square diamond-shaped circuit, using isometric pinch grip force production, would show a significant difference in performance metrics dependent on the clockwise sense of the target movement along the trajectory path. The target template incorporated path segments requiring all four possible combinations of directional force modulation patterns (increasing and decreasing isometric pinch forces of the thumb and index finger). Overall, it was found that cursor positional accuracy was greater during counterclockwise pursuit, that steadiness was greater during clockwise pursuit, and that the cursor bearing angle with respect to target movement was biased toward cursor positioning being within the interior of the trajectory circuit regardless of clockwise sense.

The condition often is identified postmortem on autopsy, and it is associated with a poor prognosis. Given the late presentation of malignant pericardial Effs, a minimal volume of literature has examined the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of these complex patients.

Background: Global health (GH) education is offered in post-graduate medical education (PGME) programs and local experiences are desired by trainees and educators. Introduction: Despite the growing use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in cancer treatment, data regarding ICI-associated pericardial disease are primarily derived from case reports and case series. ICI related pericardial disease can be difficult to diagnose and is associated with significant morbidity. We conducted a systematic review to further characterize the epidemiology, clinical presentation, and outcomes of this patient population.

Objective: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is an established revascularisation strategy for multivessel and left main coronary artery disease. Although aspirin is routinely recommended for patients with CABG, the optimal antiplatelet regimen after CABG remains unclear. We performed bibliography review and search of conference and organization websites.

Background & Aims: We conducted a meta-analysis to summarize the rates of progression to and regression of nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and fibrosis in adults with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Methods: We searched PubMed/Medline and 4 other databases from 1985 through 2020. We included observational studies and randomized controlled trials in any language that used liver biopsy or imaging to diagnose NAFLD in adults with a follow-up period ≥48 weeks.
