Background: Management of head and neck carcinoma from unknown primary (HNCUP) remains controversial, with neck dissection and radiotherapy (RT) or definitive RT both commonly used. The purpose of this study was to characterize HNCUP and retrospectively compare outcomes for patients treated with neck dissection + RT versus definitive RT.
Methods: From 1994 to 2009, 41 patients with HNCUP underwent either neck dissection + RT (n = 22) or definitive RT ± concurrent chemotherapy (n = 19) at our institution.
Background: Patients with head and neck cancer experience significant weight loss secondary to concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans, we characterize total body composition changes during and after CCRT in order to develop novel clinical care models that will improve the patient's quality of life (QOL).

We compared the risk of advanced neoplasia (AN, defined as HGD or CRC) in IBD patients with adenomas to IBD patients without adenomas and patients without IBD with adenomas.
Methods: IBD patients with a histological adenoma diagnosis (IBD + adenoma), age-matched IBD patients without adenoma (IBD-nonadenoma), and adenoma patients without IBD (nonIBD + adenoma) were enrolled in this study.
Introduction: We hypothesized that radiation-induced thoracic toxicity (RITT) of the lung, esophagus and pericardium share a similar mechanism, and aimed to examine whether genetic variation of transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGFβ1), tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), are associated with RITT in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Purpose: Although established in the postresection setting, the prognostic value of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) in unresectable locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) is less clear. We examined the prognostic utility of CA19-9 in patients with unresectable LAPC treated on a prospective trial of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) dose escalation with concurrent gemcitabine.

Purpose: To test the hypothesis that intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) aiming to spare the salivary glands and swallowing structures would reduce or eliminate the effects of xerostomia and dysphagia on quality of life (QOL).
Methods And Materials: In this prospective, longitudinal study, 72 patients with stage III-IV oropharyngeal cancer were treated uniformly with definitive chemo-IMRT sparing the salivary glands and swallowing structures. Overall QOL was assessed by summary scores of the Head Neck QOL (HNQOL) and University of Washington QOL (UWQOL) questionnaires, as well as the HNQOL "Overall Bother" question.
