A New Easy-to-Perform Flow Cytometry Assay for Determining Bacterial- and Viral-Infection-Induced Polymorphonuclear Neutrophil and Monocyte Membrane Marker Modulation in Febrile Patients.

We developed a flow cytometry (FC) assay enabling the rapid and accurate identification of bacterial and viral infections using whole blood samples. The streamlined flow cytometry assay is designed to be user-friendly, making it accessible even for operators with limited experience in FC techniques. The key components of the assay focus on the expression levels of specific surface markers-CD64 on polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) as a marker for bacterial infection, and CD169 on monocytes (MO) for viral infection.

Surgical Excision of Pulmonary Metastases of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare malignancy of mesenchymal origin of medium-low grade with a tendency to local recurrences but not to distant metastases. We present the case of a 37-year-old male who underwent surgical resection of a 1.2 cm DFSP lesion on the left shoulder in May 2020.

Atypical Presentation of Splenic Tissue Mimicking Neuroendocrine Tumor Relapse.

A 61-year-old man underwent splenopancreasectomy for a 3-cm neuroendocrine tumor of the body of the pancreas (G2, pT1 pN0, Ki67 3%). Five months after surgery 68 Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT showed increased radiotracer uptake in a solid tissue of the splenic fossa, possibly referring to a splenosis nodule. After 19 months, a further 68 Ga-DOTATOC PET/CT showed a significant functional and dimensional increase of the previously detected tissue and the appearance of a new finding in the left lateral abdominal wall.

Background: Avelumab maintenance after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy represents a cornerstone for the treatment of metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC). However, identifying prognostic biomarkers is paramount for optimizing patients' benefits while minimizing toxicity. Cytokines represent circulating mediators of the complex interaction between cancer, the immune system, and inflammation.

Quality of Life Impact in Patients with Cutaneous Toxicities Caused by Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitors and Immunotherapy.

Background: Novel oncologic therapies, including epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFR-Is) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), are associated with a new spectrum of adverse reactions, with prominent cutaneous toxicities. The impact of cutaneous adverse events (cAEs) on patients' quality of life (QoL) represents an unmet clinical need.

Objectives: The aims of this study were (1) to assess whether cutaneous toxicities directed therapies are effective in reducing the QoL burden via the submission of 2 patient reported outcome measures (PROMs); (2) to investigate whether class of oncologic therapy, type of cAE and toxicity severity differently impact on patients' QoL.

The Role of Postoperative Radiotherapy in the Management of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans: A Multidisciplinary Systematic Review.

: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a superficial soft tissue sarcoma, and surgical excision is the first-line treatment. The aim of this systematic review is to provide an update about the current indications and clinical results regarding the use of postoperative radiotherapy in DSFP, considering both adjuvant and salvage setting. : We conducted a systematic literature review using the main scientific database, including Cochrane library, Scopus, and PubMed, for any relevant article about the topic, and we considered all available papers without any time restriction.

Pancreas as an Unusual Metastatic Site of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Case of Very Long-term Follow-up Under Prolonged Treatment with Somatostatin Analogues.

Background: Pancreatic metastases from medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) are exceptional. Imaging and treatment based on somatostatin receptors may play a role, though the evidence is unconvincing.

Case Presentation: We have, herein, documented a unique case of metastatic MTC, where pancreatic metastasis was identified by 68Ga-PET/CT, with the disease showing very slow progression during treatment with lanreotide autogel.

Recently, advances in molecular biology and bioinformatics have allowed a more thorough understanding of tumorigenesis in aggressive PitNETs (pituitary neuroendocrine tumors) through the identification of specific essential genes, crucial molecular pathways, regulators, and effects of the tumoral microenvironment. Target therapies have been developed to cure oncology patients refractory to traditional treatments, introducing the concept of precision medicine. Safety and efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation for pancreatic insulinoma: A single-center experience.

Background/objectives: Insulinomas are rare, functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNEN), whose gold standard therapy is surgical resection. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) is a recent technique that has emerged as a minimally invasive therapeutic option for patients with pancreatic lesions not eligible for surgery. Surgical Resection of Pulmonary Metastases from Melanoma in Oligometastatic Patients: Results from a Multicentric Study in the Era of Immunoncology and Targeted Therapy.

In the last decade, the emergence of effective systemic therapies (ESTs) in the form of both targeted and immuno-based therapies has revolutionized the treatment of patients with advanced stage III and stage IV melanoma. Even though lungs represent the most frequent site of melanoma metastases, only limited data are available on the role of surgery in isolated pulmonary metastases from malignant melanoma (PmMM) in the era of ESTs. The aim of this study is to describe the outcomes of patients who underwent metastasectomy of PmMM in the era of ESTs, in order to identify prognostic factors affecting survival and to provide a framework for more informed patient selection of treatmeant with lung surgery in the future.

Dabrafenib-Trametinib and Radiotherapy for Oligoprogressive Mutant Advanced Melanoma.

The clinical management of metastatic melanoma has been changed by BRAF (BRAFi) and MEK inhibitors (MEKi), which represent a standard treatment for -mutant melanoma. In oligoprogressive melanoma patients with mutations, target therapy can be combined with loco-regional radiotherapy (RT). However, the association of BRAF/MEK inhibitors and RT needs to be carefully monitored for potential increased toxicity.

Radiomics to predict immunotherapy efficacy in advanced renal cell carcinoma: A retrospective study.

The role of stereotactic radiotherapy in addition to immunotherapy in the management of melanoma brain metastases: results of a systematic review.
