This systematic review investigates the potential of bergamot, a polyphenol-rich citrus fruit, in improving osteosarcopenic obesity, a condition characterized by the simultaneous presence of osteoporosis, obesity, and sarcopenia. Bergamot extracts have been suggested to possess several pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which could be useful in the management of age-related diseases and neuromuscular health. The review highlights the promising effects of bergamot extracts on skeletal muscle mass and function, particularly in the context of obesity, metabolic syndrome, osteosarcopenic obesity, and osteoporosis.

In the present work, rice husks (RHs), which, worldwide, represent one of the most abundant agricultural wastes in terms of their quantity, have been treated and fractionated in order to allow for their complete valorization. RHs coming from the raw and parboiled rice production have been submitted at first to a hydrothermal pretreatment followed by a deep eutectic solvent fractionation, allowing for the separation of the different components by means of an environmentally friendly process. The lignins obtained from raw and parboiled RHs have been thoroughly characterized and showed similar physico-chemical characteristics, indicating that the parboiling process does not introduce obvious lignin alterations.

Typical crack detection processes in digital images produce a binary-segmented image that constitutes the basis for all of the following analyses. Binary images are, however, an unsatisfactory data format for advanced crack analysis algorithms due to their sparse nature and lack of significant data structuring. Therefore, this work instead proposes a new approach based on Euclidean graphs as functional crack pattern descriptors for all post-detection analyses.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) and adenoid hypertrophy (AH) are, in children, the main cause of partial or complete upper airway obstruction and reduction in airflow. However, limited data exist about the impact of the increased resistance to airflow, on the nasal microbial composition of children with AR end AH. Allergic rhinitis (AR) as well as adenoid hypertrophy (AH), represent extremely common pathologies in this population.

The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology guidelines, strongly recommended allergen immunotherapy (AIT) as an effective treatment to achieve long-term clinical benefits and to modify the natural history of allergic diseases. Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) offers the possibility of home administration, which improves patient comfort and compliance. The primary outcome of this study was to assess the change in nasal reactivity after grass-pollen AIT treatment.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) and adenoidal hypertrophy (AH) are the most frequent causative disorders of nasal obstruction in children, leading to recurrent respiratory infections. Both nasal cavities are colonized by a stable microbial community susceptible to environmental changes and Staphylococcus aureus seems to play the major role. Furthermore, nasal microbiota holds a large number and variety of viruses with upper respiratory tract infections.

Background: Repeatability and reproducibility are essential for clinicians for several purposes. Although discouraged, use of the Coefficient of Variation (CV) for assessing repeatability and reproducibility, rather than the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), is still widespread. The aim of the present study was to highlight how using inappropriate indices may lead to misleading results, and this is done by simulation study and using real data on Anterior Active Rhinomanometry (AAR) in both healthy children and ones with rhinitis.

Background: Lertal®, an oral nutraceutical, contains extract of Perilla, quercetin, and Vitamin D3. The current polycentric, randomized, parallel-group, controlled study aimed in the Phase II to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Lertal® in preventing allergic rhinitis (AR) exacerbations in children after the end of the pharmacological treatment phase.

Materials And Methods: One hundred twenty-eight children completed Phase II.

Background: Bronchial asthma and rhinitis are among the most common diseases in children and frequently coexist in the patient. The primary aim of anti-asthmatic therapy is disease control. Several questionnaires can be used in pediatrics to assess asthma control and the Children Asthma Control Test (C-ACT) is one of the most used.

A new protocol to synthesize size-controlled Au nanoparticles (NPs) loaded onto vertically aligned anatase TiO nanotubes arrays (TNTAs) prepared by electrochemical anodization is reported. Ligand-free Au NPs (<10 nm) were deposited onto anatase TNTAs supports, finely tuning the Au loading by controlling the immersion time of the support into metal vapor synthesis (MVS)-derived Au-acetone solutions. The Au/TNTAs composites were characterized by electron microscopies (SEM, (S)TEM), X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy.

This study presents an experimental overview for the development of photocatalytic materials based on geopolymer binders as catalyst support matrices. Particularly, geopolymer matrices obtained from different solid precursors (fly ash and metakaolin), composite systems (siloxane-hybrid, foamed hybrid), and curing temperatures (room temperature and 60 °C) were investigated for the same photocatalyst content (i.e.

Background: Zygomycosis is a rare life-threatening fungal infection affecting mostly patients with predisposing conditions such as diabetes mellitus, immunodeficiency, haemochromatosis or major trauma.

Methods: We describe a case of rhinocerebral zygomycosis in a girl with type 1 diabetes and review previous published cases and treatment options.

Results: A 14-year-old girl with type 1 diabetes mellitus occurred with dental pain, facial swelling, ecchymosis and left eye decreased visual acuity, unresponsive to antibiotic therapy.

The connective tissues of the bovine optic nerve and left recurrent nerve have been investigated at the ultrastructure level by TEM and freeze-fracture. The outermost of three concentric sheaths enveloping the nerve appear very similar; the intermediate sheaths appear different enough to suggest different functionalities, while the innermost sheaths are completely dissimilar. The ultrastructural aspects of the extracellular matrix suggest that all the connective tissues may mainly play a passive role as a packing material for the nerve fibers, while none of the sheaths seems apt to withstand mechanical stresses.
