Unlabelled: Currently, approximately 8 million adult Americans use electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) daily, including women of childbearing age. It is known that more than 10% of women smoke during their pregnancy, and recent surveys show that rates of maternal vaping are similar to rates of maternal cigarette smoking. However, the effects of inhaling e-cig aerosol on the health of fetuses remain unknown.

Here, we tested the hypothesis that in utero JUUL exposure causes unfavorable birth outcomes and lasting pulmonary health effects in adult offspring. BALB/c dams were exposed to either air or mint-flavored JUUL aerosol, 1-hr/d, 20 consecutive days during gestation.

As per our observations, in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain USA300, CS extract (CSE) potentiates biofilm formation via the down-regulation of quorum-sensing regulon accessory gene regulator. Because accessory gene regulator is a global regulator of the staphylococcal virulome, in the present study we sought to identify the effects of CS exposure on staphylococcal gene expression using RNAseq.

Acid-soluble collagen (ASC) and pepsin solubilized collagen (PSC) isolated and purified from alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) bone were studied for molecular size, amino acid profile, secondary structure, and denaturation temperature by SDS-PAGE, HPLC, circular dichroism, and viscometry. Two collagen subunits, alpha1 and alpha2 were identified by SDS-PAGE. The molecular masses for alpha1 and alpha2 chains of ASC were 124 kDa and 111 kDa, respectively.

The yields of ASCs on dry basis from black drum and sheepshead were estimated at 2.3 and 2.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwo novel prostaglandins (PG) have been found in human seminal fluid which had been frozen immediately after collection. They were characterized by combined gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry of various derivatives as 19-hydroxy prostaglandin E1 (11, 15, 19-trihydroxy-9-ketoprost-13-enoic acid) and 19-hydroxy prostaglandin E2 (11, 15, 19-trihydroxy-9-ketoprosta-5, 13-dienoic acid). They were present in three to five times the quantity of prostaglandins E1 and E2.
