Shift work can cause circadian cycles disturbances and misaligns the endogenous rhythms. The physiological variables are driven by the circadian system and, its misalignment, can impair the metabolic functions. Thus, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the metabolic alterations as a result of shift work and night work reported in articles published in the last 5 years, using the eligibility criteria both gender and indexed articles in English language.

Sarcomatoid carcinoma (SaC) of the bladder is an extremely uncommon and aggressive variant of bladder cancer. An accurate diagnosis for this variant is necessary, but at times difficult.

Cystic nephroma treated with nephron-sparing technique: A case report.

Multilocular cystic nephroma is a rare benign kidney tumor, which is typically characterized by a unilateral, multicystic renal mass without solid elements. Cystic nephroma has a bimodal distribution and two-thirds of tumors involve children aged between 3 months and 2 years, with male predominance; a second peak affects the age group >30 years old, in which females are predominantly affected. The incidence rate for this rare tumor in patients aged 5-30 years is only 5%.

Pemphigus vegetans with isolated involvement of the nose and chest: rare variant of pemphigus vulgaris.

Pemphigus vulgaris is chronic bullous disease that manifests as bullae and erosions of skin and mucosas, with intraepidermal suprabasal cleft formation seen in the histological examination. It has a rare variant called pemphigus vegetans, where vesicles and bullae are replaced by pustular, verrucous and hyperpigmented lesions, mainly in skin folds. The treatment is similar to that for classic pemphigus vulgaris.

Methods: From January 2003 to January 2004, 140 patients affected by mild-severe LUTS, secondary to BOO from BPH, refractory to medical therapy, with markedly enlarged glands, were randomized in two groups (1:1), and subjected to open prostatectomy (OPSU) carried out with traditional method (Bracci Thechnique) versus transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) utilizing the bipolar methodology.

Material And Methods: From 2002 to 2007 we performed 14 radical cystectomies followed by orthotopic reconstruction in women aged between 47 and 68 years (mean age 56) affected by urinary bladder carcinoma. Our reconstructive technique requires the preparation of two strips of the recti muscles fascia, the sectioning of the bladder neck and, when the uterus is present, hysteroannessiectomy and cystectomy en block leaving intact the lateral and inferior vaginal walls.

Evaluation of the transurethral ethanol ablation of the prostate (TEAP) for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): a European multi-center evaluation.

Objective: We prospectively conducted a European multi-center study to assess the safety and efficacy of injecting dehydrated ethanol using a specialized injection system for the treatment of BPH.

This study was undertaken to assess whether the immunoperoxidase technique using anti-BCG serum is able to confirm the diagnosis of early leprosy among patients whose unique clinical manifestation is a localized area of sensory loss, in a higher proportion than the routine mycobacterial staining methods, namely hematoxylin-eosin and Wade. The study was held in the north of a hyper-endemic area of leprosy, Manaus, Amazonas (Brazil). Fifty-one paraffin-embedded skin biopsy blocks were retrieved and processed for the immunohistochemical study, by means of anti-BCG polyclonal antibodies for the detection of mycobacterial antigens.

Introduction: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) has long been accepted worldwide in the treatment of kidney stone disease. Upper ureter calculi in ureteral and kidney malformations are rather frequent (10-25%). The aims of this retrospective study were to determine whether malformations might impair fragment expulsion.

Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia with transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate (TUVP) using Vaportrode VE-B. Two years follow-up.

Background: We report our experience on abdominal sacral colpopexy (CSP) with a prolene mesh in women with vaginal vault prolapse.

Methods: From 1994 to 1997 15 patients (average 57 years), underwent CSP. All patients suffered from a serious vaginal vault prolapse.
