Conventional cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) shows micro- and macroangiopathic changes such as severe and progressive white matter lesions (WMLs) at an early age on T2- and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery-weighted images, increased signal intensity in the pulvinar on T1-weighted MRI, as well as tortuosity and dilatation of the larger vessels (dolicho-ectasia).
