The search for an iron analog of the established ruthenium-based catalysts containing methylene-extended 4,5-bis(diorganophosphinomethyl)acridine ligands, [FeHCl(CO)(L)], resulted in the discovery of a bidentate coordination mode of these usually tridentate pincer ligands toward iron. The acridines nitrogen atom does not coordinate to iron, leading to the formation of iron diphos-type complexes with unusually large bite angles of up to 124° as well as bite angles around 155°. The iron-containing complexes [FeCl(κ-L)] (R = Pr, Ph), [FeX(κ-L)] (X = Cl, Br) and [Fe(CO)(κ-L)] (R = Pr, Cy) have been isolated in crystalline form and characterized by spectroscopic methods and mass spectrometry.

We describe an unusual, yet simple, Cu-catalyzed system for the amination of aryl chlorides in pure aqueous ammonia with 2.5 mol % catalyst loading under non-inert conditions.

The mammalian neocortex comprises an enormous diversity regarding cell types, morphology, and connectivity. In this work, we discover a post-transcriptional mechanism of gene expression regulation, protein translation, as a determinant of cortical neuron identity. We find specific upregulation of protein synthesis in the progenitors of later-born neurons and show that translation rates and concomitantly protein half-lives are inherent features of cortical neuron subtypes.

Polyurethanes are synthesized on industrial scale by the reaction of diisocyanates with diols in the presence of catalysts which are commonly based on tin complexes and amines. However, due to the toxicity and volatility of these tin catalysts and amines, there is the need to develop new catalysts that are more environmentally benign. Herein, we report the synthesis of O^N^O pincer-ligated Mn(III) and Fe(III) complexes that serve as suitable catalysts for urethane formation and are stable to hydrolysis as predicted by computations and observed experimentally.

In here, a strategy for the late-stage functionalization of shape-persistent alkyne-containing cycloparaphenylene has been explored using readily available azides. The copper-free [3+2]azide-alkyne cycloaddition provided high yields (>90 %) in a single reaction step.

Constriction band syndrome (CBS) is a rare condition where fibrous bands constrict one or more parts of the fetus with varying manifestations such as autoamputation, acrosyndactyly, and neuropathy. However, isolated extremity fractures in the setting of constriction band syndrome are even more rare, with only two reported cases in the literature. There are few guidelines on the management of CBS due to small case numbers, the variability of presentation between patients, and the lack of consensus on etiology and pathogenesis.

We use acallosal Neurod2/6-deficient mice to study callosal axon guidance within the ipsilateral cerebral cortex. Over the last decade, there has been a rapid growth in the use of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to recover unconventional oil and gas in the Permian Basin of southeastern New Mexico (NM) and western Texas. Fracking generates enormous quantities of wastes that contain technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive materials (TENORM), which poses risks to human health and the environment because of the relatively high doses of radioactivity. Chemical recycling, in particular hydrogenative depolymerization, offers a promising way to utilize plastic waste. This report covers the manganese-catalyzed hydrogenation of polyurethane materials to the corresponding monomeric units. The key to success is a Mn pincer complex as a potent hydrogenation catalyst in combination with elevated temperatures (up to 200 °C) and appropriate solvents to ensure sufficient solubility of the polymers.

The neocortex is stereotypically organized into layers of excitatory neurons arranged in a precise parallel orientation. Here we show that dynamic adhesion both preceding and following radial migration is essential for this organization. Neuronal adhesion is regulated by the Mowat-Wilson syndrome-associated transcription factor Zeb2 (Sip1/Zfhx1b) through direct repression of independent adhesion pathways controlled by Neuropilin-1 (Nrp1) and Cadherin-6 (Cdh6).

Chemical reduction of several cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) ranging in size from [8]CPP to [12]CPP has been investigated with potassium metal in THF. The X-ray diffraction characterization of the resulting doubly-reduced []CPPs provided a unique series of carbon nanohoops with increasing dimensions and core flexibility for the first comprehensive structural analysis.
