Nitrate (NO ) deficiency decreases root water uptake and root hydraulic conductance. This adaptive response is correlated with reduced abundance and activity of plasma membrane intrinsic protein (PIP) aquaporins. We therefore screened changes in the root architecture of a complete set of Arabidopsis pip loss-of-function mutants grown under NO deficiency to systematically approach the impact of PIPs under these conditions.

The small-molecule glucosyltransferase UGT76B1 inactivates salicylic acid (SA), isoleucic acid (ILA), and N-hydroxypipecolic acid (NHP). ugt76b1 loss-of-function plants manifest an enhanced defense status.

We have recently developed a bead-based immunoassay for the quantitative assessment of agonist-induced GPCR phosphorylation that can be performed entirely in 96-well plates, thus eliminating the need for western blot analysis. In the present study, we adapted this assay to three novel phosphosite-specific antibodies directed against the neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor, namely pS338/pT339-NK1, pT344/pS347-NK1, and pT356/pT357-NK1.

However, little is known about the roles of post-transcriptional processing of nuclear or organellar transcripts and how meaningful these changes are. To address these issues, we used RNA-sequencing after ribosomal RNA depletion to monitor (post)transcriptional changes during different times of drought exposure in Arabidopsis Col-0.

We show here that a root endophytic desert bacterium, Pseudomonas argentinensis strain SA190, enhances drought stress tolerance in Arabidopsis. Transcriptome and genetic analysis demonstrate that SA190-induced root morphogenesis and gene expression is mediated via the plant abscisic acid (ABA) pathway.

One important signaling molecule in SAR is pipecolic acid (Pip), accumulation of which is dependent on the aminotransferase ALD1 in Arabidopsis.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of a prepregnancy weight loss intervention on gestational diabetes mellitus recurrence in women with overweight/obesity and previous gestational diabetes mellitus.
Study Design: A 2-site, randomized controlled trial comparing a prepregnancy lifestyle intervention with educational control was conducted between December 2017 and February 2022.
Flowering is one of the most important physiological processes of plants that ensures continuity of genetic flow from one generation to the next and also maintains food security. Therefore, impact of various climate-related abiotic stresses on flowering have been assessed to evaluate the long-term impact of global climate change. In contrast to the enormous volume of research that has been conducted at the genetic, transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and protein level, much less attention has been paid to understand the role of various metabolites in flower induction and floral organ development during normal growth or in stressed environmental condition.

This cross-sectional study aimed at estimating rates of malnutrition in critical care units and determining the extent to which malnutrition diagnoses are documented in medical records by physicians, at two public tertiary hospitals in Malawi.
Methods: A total of 315 adult (n = 112) and paediatric (n = 203) participants from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and Kamuzu Central Hospital, were included in the analysis.
Introduction: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) significantly increases maternal and fetal health risks, but factors predictive of GDM are poorly understood.
Objectives: Plasma metabolomics analyses were conducted in early pregnancy to identify potential metabolites associated with prediction of GDM.
Methods: Sixty-eight pregnant women with overweight/obesity from a clinical trial of a lifestyle intervention were included.
Obesity (Silver Spring)
January 2022
Objective: The purpose of this study was to prospectively examine the effect of state stay-at-home mandates on weight of US adults by BMI over 3 months during COVID-19.
Methods: US adults completed an online questionnaire containing demographics, weight, physical activity, sedentary time, fruit/vegetable intake, depressive symptoms, stress, and sleep at baseline (May 2020) and after 3 months (August 2020).
Results: Participants gained 0.
Enhancement of fibrinolysis constitutes a promising approach to treat thrombotic diseases. Venous thrombosis and thromboembolism risks are associated with increased plasma levels of TAFI (Thrombin Activatable Fibrinolysis Inhibitor) as well as its active form TAFIa. A new TAFIa inhibitor, namely S62798 has been identified.

The Arabidopsis thaliana glucosyltransferase UGT76B1 is involved in conjugating the stress hormone salicylic acid (SA) as well as isoleucic acid (ILA). Here, we show that UGT76B1 also glucosylates N-hydroxypipecolic acid (NHP), which is synthesized by FLAVIN-DEPENDENT MONOOXYGENASE 1 (FMO1) and activates systemic acquired resistance (SAR).

Reduced food intake combined with nutrient-poor foods served in hospitals contribute to nutritional risk. This study investigated whether reported dietary intake and disease state of hospitalized adults in critical care units was related to malnutrition determined by mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC).

However, not many studies have been conducted at the molecular level to characterize important genes that regulate vegetative and flowering habit in bamboo. In this study, two bamboo FD genes, BtFD1 and BtFD2, which are members of the florigen activation complex (FAC) have been identified by sequence and phylogenetic analyses.

Intrauterine exposure to GDM raises the risk for complications in offspring as well, including stillbirth, macrosomia, and birth trauma, and long-term risk of metabolic disease. One of the strongest risk factors for GDM is the occurrence of GDM in a prior pregnancy.

Therefore, TAFIa inhibitors could be used in at-risk patients for the treatment, prevention, and secondary prevention of stroke, venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolisms. In this paper, we describe the design, the structure-activity relationship (SAR), and the synthesis of novel, potent, and selective phosphinanes and azaphosphinanes as TAFIa inhibitors.

The recent discovery that kaempferol serves as a precursor for ubiquinone's benzenoid moiety both challenges the conventional view of flavonoids as specialized metabolites, and offers new prospects for engineering ubiquinone in plants. Here, we present evidence that Arabidopsis thaliana mutants lacking kaempferol 3-O-rhamnosyltransferase (ugt78d1) and kaempferol 3-O-glucosyltransferase (ugt78d2) activities display increased de novo biosynthesis of ubiquinone and increased ubiquinone content.

Extensive studies on the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana genome have revealed that it has undergone five rounds of WGDs followed, in the Brassicaceae tribe, by a characteristic whole genome triplication (WGT). In addition, small-scale events such as tandem or segmental duplications and retrotransposition also enable plants to reshape their genomes.
