Background: Transplant rates in Ontario rose steeply in the decade prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reasons for that increase remain unclear, but the inter-organizational arrangement of organ donation programs may have contributed. However, there is a paucity of literature investigating these inter-organizational arrangements, with a limited understanding of how communication facilitates organ donation.

Characteristics and Outcomes of People With Gout Hospitalized Due to COVID-19: Data From the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance Physician-Reported Registry.

Objective: To describe people with gout who were diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and hospitalized and to characterize their outcomes.

Methods: Data on patients with gout hospitalized for COVID-19 between March 12, 2020, and October 25, 2021, were extracted from the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance registry. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the demographics, comorbidities, medication exposures, and COVID-19 outcomes including oxygenation or ventilation support and death.

Who supports science-related populism? A nationally representative survey on the prevalence and explanatory factors of populist attitudes toward science in Switzerland.

Science and its epistemology have been challenged by science-related populism-a variant of populism suggesting that a virtuous "ordinary people," and not allegedly corrupt academic elites, should determine the "production of truth." Yet almost no studies have assessed the prevalence of science-related populist attitudes among the population and explanatory factors thereof. Based on a nationally representative survey in Switzerland, our study shows that only a minority of the Swiss exhibit science-related populist attitudes.

Background: There is a need for early therapeutic interventions after traumatic brain injury (TBI) to prevent neurodegeneration. Microglia/macrophage (M/M) depletion and repopulation after treatment with colony stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R) inhibitors reduces neurodegeneration. The present study investigates short- and long-term consequences after CSF1R inhibition during the early phase after TBI.

Engaging the public or asking your friends? Analysing science-related crowdfunding using behavioural and survey data.

Science-related crowdfunding enables public engagement with science. However, we know little about citizens engaging with science this way: Who are the people engaging with and donating to science through crowdfunding - and how do they decide how much to give? This study analyses behavioural and survey data from the Swiss crowdfunding platform ( = 576). Results illustrate that a small, non-representative segment of the public engages with science through crowdfunding.

Interlaboratory Comparison Investigations (ICIs) and External Quality Assurance Schemes (EQUASs) for human biomonitoring of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in serum as part of the quality assurance programme under HBM4EU.

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are of very high concern due to their persistence and accumulative behaviour as well as their manifold adverse health effects. Human biomonitoring (HBM) based on the determination of PFASs in serum samples is an adequate and established strategy for exposure and risk assessment of the population. The suspected health risks associated with exposure levels in the general population call for reliable HBM data verified by Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) measures.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate 4D-Flow MRI-derived viscous energy loss [Formula: see text])-as a result of non-efficient flow propagation, and relate this parameter to standard right ventricular (RV) size and function markers in patients with repaired TOF.

Methods: Thirty-five patients with TOF and 14 controls underwent comprehensive 4D-Flow MRI evaluation for qualitative flow analysis and to calculate [Formula: see text] in the main and right pulmonary arteries.

Effective Ligand Design: Zinc Complexes with Guanidine Hydroquinoline Ligands for Fast Lactide Polymerization and Chemical Recycling.

In this study, the synthesis of two new guanidine hydroquinoline ligands served as basis for six new zinc guanidine complexes. Two of these complexes showed very high activity in the lactide polymerization under industrial conditions. The lactide polymerization was demonstrated in solution and melt conditions observing high activity and molar masses up to 90 000 g mol .

Background: Physical inactivity and sedentary behavior are modifiable risk factors for an unhealthy lifestyle in university students. The aim of this study was to identify subgroups among German university students with an increased risk for unhealthy behavior. For this purpose, differences in physical activity and sedentary behavior with respect to sociodemographic and study related factors were examined.

Distinct Patterns of University Students Study Crafting and the Relationships to Exhaustion, Well-Being, and Engagement.

Job crafting has been established as a bottom-up work design instrument for promoting health and well-being in the workplace. In recent years, the concepts of job crafting have been applied to the university student context, proving to be positively related to student well-being. Building on person-centered analyses from the employment context, we assessed approach study crafting strategy combinations and the relationships to students' exhaustion, study engagement, and general well-being.

Acute appendicitis following the COVID-19 vaccine.

We report the case of a previously healthy 69-year-old female who developed appendicitis after receiving the third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine; no other triggers were identified. We speculate that an association exists which may be mediated by colonic lymphoid hyperplasia, a condition that might be indicative of an enhanced immunological mucosal response to antigenic stimulation. As widespread vaccination coverage continues, it is crucial to monitor and accurately report the adverse reactions that may otherwise remain unidentified in vaccination trials.

Introduction: The skeletal survey (SS) is used to evaluate and diagnose bone abnormalities, including fractures caused by child abuse. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends initial SS for all children younger than 24 months old who are suspected victims of abuse and a follow-up skeletal survey (FUSS) 2 weeks later. The latter can further characterize abnormal or equivocal findings, detect ongoing trauma, or fractures too acute for visualization upon initial assessment.
